It's a good game, but the best ever? Hardly. I don't think any game held up by story and other aspects besides the gameplay can be considered "the best."

The upcoming remake is looking like the definitive version. Much improved visuals, the gameplay speed and tempo has been upgraded quite a bit, and it sounds like there's going to be some new story beats in some form.

they said that they will add things to the game and we dont know how much of the additional thing they will bring to the table. i say play the original first, it will be a different experience anyway

If you play the original first then you will be able to see what changes to gameplay and story happened and get the easter eggs etc. I mean plenty of worse games to play six times.
