Should I sell out to Epic Games?

>Epic offering me nearly $1 million for my game to be a 1 year exclusive

I read some stories where people decline epics offer only for their game to sell like shit. Will people hate me forever if I sell out? This is a lot of money, I won't have to work anymore... and it feels like a risk to decline.

Which game user?

Bird in the hand is worth the two in the bush.

No one gives a fuck. Its 1 Mil. Think about it user.

larp larp larpy larp larp

to add on to this, how much are you selling it for and how much of a cut does Epic/Steam want per sale? For a shitty indie game, it'd have to be really expensive or sell ridiculously well to earn you 1mil, it's probably better to put it on Epic Games

In all seriousness just make sure there's no Denuvo

The only people who would get upset at you for this would be fat nerds on Zig Forums who wouldn't even buy your game anyway. Take the money and live a good life OP.

Take the money you fucking faggot.
>Will people hate me
Lmao who gives a shit, you're sitting on good cash now.

I'll lose all my momentum if the community finds out and I don't want them to be filling the forums with protesting.
It's an indie game.
Yeah I am planning on taking the money I am just trying to see what the fallout of this decision is going to be. I don't care if people pirate my game in protest. This is still enough money for me to consider it a win. Heck even if 100% of the people pirate my game I'll be happy because I profited and they still got to experience my game. My only concern is reputation. I plan on making more games in the future and I don't want this decision to haunt me forever

Why would it haunt you? Most people don't actually give a shit about this kind of thing.

Literally every epic exclusive has fallen into obscurity days after release. The free money negates that so do whatever I guess.

For as much as I dislike epic as well, that's a lot of money for something that likely won't bother that many people
I don't think I could refuse that offer if I was given it

Do the gigachad move. Take the money and upload a cracked version.

Honestly if I were you I'd do it. But as a player, I'll totally shit on you for it

Hide an easter egg of Sweeney sucking a big fat dick and then release it on Epic. After the year is up, "leak" the easter egg and get your cred back. Easy as 1-3-2

just take it.

Do you have any confidence in your game? If not, just take the money.
What kind of indie garbage is your game anyway?

Epic may be shit but money is money. People would just forgot about it in like week anyway.

Is right, no one truly cares about this shit.

Use the money to fund the sequel that will be on Steam and EGS

It'd be funny if it was Deltarune Chapter 2

Why the fuck would you not do it?
Seriously, shitposting aside, nobody will really care unless you promised Steam Keys during a kickstarter. If you didn't do that, take the fucking money and release it on Steam as soon as the contract is up— you have a guaranteed $1m+A few EGS Sales+Whatever you get from Steam when it releases on a platform most people actually use and probably does much better on.
Take the fucking money. As sad as it is, temporary exclusivity deals are the modern equivalent of AA publisher funding.

It's Hokko Life isn't it user.

take the money, only turbo virgin care about egs/steam shit

I don’t think another million would be this big of a deal for Toby

do it bitch

"I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM EGS" is a fucking meme and no one actually gives a fuck, maybe except for turbo autists, but they only play Stalker mods all day anyway so who cares.
Take the money.

Literally not true

>My only concern is reputation. I plan on making more games in the future and I don't want this decision to haunt me forever
Just create a new online identity afterwards you fag.

Take it dude. Just know that a million bucks isn't all that much in the grand scheme, use the money from Epic and your game sales wisely, obviously.
I'm not familiar with this at all; out of curiosity, what cut are they offering you on sales to use their store front?

Borderlands 3 and RDR2, anything else that wasn't immediately forgotten in the public consciousness?

I could never fault anyone for turning down a deal like that. It's not like you're giving them the rights either, it's just a 1 year exclusivity deal. The only question is worth asking is if being epic exclusive during its launch month (the only part of most game's lives that has any bearing on its financial success) will cost you more money than they're offering you.

>Take the money.
I>nclude bugs in release.
>Fix bugs for Steam version
>Include "Now bug free, thanks for beta testing Epic Games Store!" on store page.
>Enjoy people buying your game just to stick it to EGS.

I'd take only only if
>You have no confidence on your game making 1 mil
>You have the knowledge on how to put that 1mil to use to make even more money instead of just living as a hikkineet until that 1mil slowly but surely disappears
>You are capable of creating a brand new identity after you sell out and your reputation is kill and willing to start over from zero after that

Well it could bite you in the ass but if you reject the deal you might be able to pull a DARQ and get the fuckers to buy it out of spite at epic

Do you have any prior promise to release it on Steam? If not just take the money.
Unless you are an idiot like Ooblet's dev, you'll be okay.

Take the money. $1 mil is enough to cover up any past mistakes in your life user plus afford housing for life (meaning you can outright buy a decent house). Do it. Please.

Check out Hades, they got the money but they used the Early Access BS so they didn't got as much as backslash as before plus the big mad part of it is when the devs promised Steam keys for the Kickstarter and shit.

Whatever you do OP, don't sperg-out afterwards. That is honestly what has ruined Epic deals takers more than taking the actual deal, that they completely sperged out at any backlash they got.

>Heck even if 100% of the people pirate my game I'll be happy because I profited and they still got to experience my game.
With this mindset I dont see a problem.
If you were to REE on twitter about evil pirates that strangle the whole indistry and your Very Unique Platformer no.4029, thats a diffirent story.

Hokko life have Team17 as publishers and they choose what to do unless they gave the choice to the devs.

Literally who cares about what faggots on this board whine about

For how long have you been working on your game, OP?

Go for it. Take the chink cash while you can.

I think Epic is paying you too much. I doubt your game is going to be the next Stardew Valley, Hotline Miami or Evoland or whatever. It'll likely be a game that's hidden in obscurity and there won't even be threads on Zig Forums or any real public recognition from other platforms either.

That being said, money don't bring you happiness. Keep the 1mil, create your next game and if it's really good then people won't even remember the first game was Epic exlusive in the beginning.

Its free money. Look at Phoenix point, it bombed hard but it made profit because of EG

>I am just trying to see what the fallout of this decision is going to be
I've never seen any fallout from a game being EGS exclusive unless it's a big name lots of people are hype for. And even then i've only seen the fallout on Zig Forums. The only thing that has a meaningful bearing on your reputation is if your game is good or not. If the takeaway ends up being "this fuckers' a sellout" it simply means your game wasn't good.
