Every other aspect was wonderful, but that alone brings down the experience.
Loathe though I am to say it, I have to say Awakening is the best overall 3DS FE game.

Not him, but running into an enemy in a dungeon and fighting 12 of the same enemy in the same featureless square area EACH AND EVERY TIME isn't fun. Having to go into dungeons to promote every time at a statue isn't fun. Using health for skills isn't fun. Losing skills tied to weapons isn't fun. Fuck I actually kind of hate this game.

My friend, allow me to introduce you to the Pitchfork and Dread Fighter upgrade glitch.

Celica's route becomes a real drag around chapter 3 and 4 with almost all the maps in chapter 4 having swamps that completely hinder all but flier's movement ability. The game's mechanics are also directly based on the original which released in the early 90's so it's a bit dated, but it still feels great to play imo with the 3ds engine.

I enjoyed it quite a lot, my favourite 3DS FE game
Yes the desert was tedious, but mostly because my extended battery started shitting out at that point, only managed to beat it when I swapped in my original battery
No idea why people complain about the swamp
