Pretty unremarkable.
It's kind of bizarre because it goes to great lengths to recreate a few really iconic scenes from the original movie and SAC but with absolutely none of the original context. The story is a bad mix of the original movie and the laughing man arc from SAC and it's pretty bad. The entire movies looks way too much like Bladeruuner, too.

GITS is about trannies though. A part of the series is that Major (the main character) doesn't know if her previous life was as a man or woman. But it is irrelevant, since GITS was originally (as a manga) created as a fetish-fuel copy of Blade Runner.
