If Ultimate didn't have that shitty input delay excused as a buffer, I'd play it as much as I did Melee and 64, but it does, so its discarded. I WANT TO like ultimate but that buffer, and stuff like auto shorthops and other annoying decisions ruin it for me.

I'll forever take gameplay over everything. Everything else is polish on turd design. Sad because Ultimates so close to being great, but Sakurai's old ass JUST HAD to put in that buffer so his old slow hands can feel relevant.

I honestly think that Sakurai having to design the game around people using a single joycon or wii remote is part of what is holding the series back.

It's more of a quantity vs quality issue. 4 and Ultimate have half a dozen clone characters (ultimate having way more than that) and most sword users have the same gameplan.

Thing is that becomes a moot point with long running series, that said Smash is only on it's 5th game compared to something like Street Fighter or Tekken but you know. Anyway, for long running series it gets easier with each game to expand rosters without losing that quality.

Which you're getting, there are far more unique characters to clones nowadays as well as that even the clones have less similarities to their originals than they did in previous games for example Mario and Dr. Mario.

Tried it on /vm/ and it just died off. Maybe it'll go better on here. The game's more alive now than it was a couple of years ago, too. I usually play on the smash ladder, but it's a gamble between getting a guy who started playing last week or a dude who competes at a top national level. Playing with you fags has historically been way more fun.

I actually like the huge roster and I am 100% convinced that simply adding the two elements I mentionned would balance the game out very well and cull some of the annoying zoner gimmicks. The biggest reason why zoning is so effective in this game is the lack of approach options and the emphasis on defensive non-commiting gameplay. I'm not even trying to say we need to go back to ledgehogging and L cancelling because L cancelling is a devolution and removing ledgehogging may have made offstage play a drag, bjt it changed how you play the meta and, IMO, makes it far more interesting, but being able to use wavedashing as a movement option coupled with being able to conserve aerial momentum would fix the biggest issues I have with this game which is the fact that since you are limited in how you can use movement to position yourself accurately or bait a certain reaction, it makes it too easy for people to just spam their safe air options to prevent anyone from getting on the offensive, leading to a very campy meta.

No fighting game needs 70 CHARACTERS. Ultimate's roster is bloated with excess fighters that no one is actually passionate about. Post-2018, the game lives purely off the "hype" surrounding DLC characters, and everyone forgets them a week after their release.

I had one friend who would play PM with me all the time. Like we would set up brackets with every character and have a tournament every weekend. Sometimes we'd dabble in stupid mods like Infinite too, those would take up several weeks. Then he got a girlfriend last year and I haven't seen him since.
I genuinely love PM so much it's the best Smash game I've ever played. Now I am alone.
Also, add Metal Mario to Smash.
