I saw one of these clubs during my first year at community college. My advisor recommended I lead (or at least join) a club because I had a bright personality and I'm fairly charismatic. "Sure", I thought to myself, "I'll see what clubs there are at this college."
Naturally there was an anime club and I was within seconds of joining, but backed out.
My sister joined one when she started college a few years later
She told me it's as bad as you'd expect

I used to do this in elementary school with some friends involving sonic, then later anime like Bleach and Naruto. It was autistic as hell but a lot of fun so I have fond memories of it, also it was a good excuse to beat the shit out of each other with sticks.

I must’ve gotten lucky, because while my college anime club did have its share of dorks, most people were well adjusted and pleasant to be around.
