Medieval 1 is rough- the biggest thing is the soldiers aren't 3d, they're 2d sprites basically. It looks awful haha. The gameplay was a lot simpler as well. I started with the first Shogun the first total war game, used to make huge armies of muskets just line up and face off. Lately I've been enjoying another run through Fall of the Samurai, doing a Divide et Impera campaign in Rome 2, and I finally gave in and installed Warhammer.

The Army of the Republic of Satsuma has come to your door. You will modernize or we will MAKE you modernize.

wow, fall of the samurai was so damn good. i cant medieval 2 anymore though because the shitty camera bugs me

>Medieval 1 is rough- the biggest thing is the soldiers aren't 3d, they're 2d sprites basically. It looks awful haha.
It's a product of its time that's for sure. I thought they looked OK when I tried it. Esp for its time. It must've been mindblowing to have a game like that.
>The gameplay was a lot simpler as well.
Was it simpler than shogun 1? kind of curious regarding that given shogun 1 was their first game
>I started with the first Shogun the first total war game, used to make huge armies of muskets just line up and face off.
based OG user
>Lately I've been enjoying another run through Fall of the Samurai
Superbased kek, easily one of my top rated TW games. Hopefully they'll make another gunpowder era that will outdo it in terms of fun. And they better put some autism into it like they did shogun 2.
>doing a Divide et Impera campaign in Rome 2
I've heard nothing but good things about. Seems like an outstanding mod. I was especially impressed with how long battles can take with it, with the units slugging it out for idk how long. but for sure much longer than they do in the vanilla game. If I ever replay rome 2 (which honestly isn't happening soon) I'll be trying out that mod
>and I finally gave in and installed Warhammer.
based user, trying out new things

It is so sad that historic TW peaked with Shogun 2.
I just cant get into any of the late games. The interface is just so bad, and the bajillion different units with 0.01 different stats makes it very difficult to play.

Shrapnel shells are the coolest fucking thing. It's really hard to pause it exactly when they're exploding- the shell has a timed fuse and detonates 15 meters or so before impact so it throws shrapnel downwards all across the infantry.

based forced modernization. Also is that a armstrong gun? among parrot guns? or is it a parrot gun among armstrong guns?

based. Man I can't believe how good the game still looks for being 9 years old..

What game has the most kino cavalry charges of them all??

I member the Stainless Steel mod where you could clear an army of thousands of spearmen and low-mid tier units just with two or three upgraded Knight units + a bodyguard by mid game. Looking for something similar.

I'm more of a choshu player myself, I love those bear infantry you get with them. Too bad I always get stuck at the beginning for plundering the city next to me so I can develop my starting city so I stay stuck farming rebellions that inevitably spawn, for like the 7th time kek
I never get far into fall of the samurai because I find it super hard :c

The bronze ones are Armstrong; they're a little larger than the Parrot's which are black. This army has Armstrong, Parrot, and a few Gatling guns too. Parrots are smaller so they don't hit quite as hard and have less range IIRC, but they're still breach-loading rifled artillery with explosive shells and they will absolutely fuck your 1865 world up.
Republican infantry in kneel and fire (first two ranks fire) will cut down anything that stands before them, and sabre cav are just for wrecking enemy artillery if they bring it and of course what sabre cav was designed to do- run down fleeing enemy peasants.

I played so much of it that it's like riding a bicycle, handling the camera comes back to me after a couple of battles. There was a trick to it where you shift your mouse cursor down into the UI and outside the UI. Can't blame you for not liking it anymore, it's pretty old kek. Also heard that from plenty of people, they just can't go back to it after the newer games. not that I blame them for it
>wow, fall of the samurai was so damn good.
you trying to farm based from me user? If so good job, based ;)

>It is so sad that historic TW peaked with Shogun 2.
I know user, I know.. It's just how it is. they probably lost their soul at that point if I'm going to be honest
>I just cant get into any of the late games.
me neither, they just don't do it for me anymore. except for total warhammer if anything. that's because I'm a sucker for the setting kek
>the bajillion different units with 0.01 different stats makes it very difficult to play.
Eh, you can just go by rule of thumb. If they look stronger than your units, they'll probably win. if so, shoot at them first or during their battle with other units. If they're big, use your specialist units against them or shoot at them until they die. I personally like it more when I don't know the strengths of units vs units since I get more immersed in it. It bores when I know my units will steamroll them. but to each their own I guess

Man that sounds brutal, never knew that was available in FOTS
based modernization ;)

My vote goes for medieval 2 charges. nothing was as satisfying as charging troops in that game
second contender is ironically warhammers. it looks flashy but doesn't actually do much damage sadly.. also cavalry sucks pretty hard in that game..

Medieval 2 was good but Rome 1 with Barbarian Invasion will be my favorite.

Yeah I thought so, I could hear them say it just by looking at the picture lmao. Nothing beats armstrong guns. I never got to them in the campaign, only tried them out in custom battle. but parrot guns were also good. all artillery pieces were good except for wooden cannons lol.
>but they're still breach-loading rifled artillery with explosive shells
seems like someone has done their homework on the matter, good job user
>they will absolutely fuck your 1865 world up.
kek I bet they would. they wrecked shit enough in my game to deem them irreplacable
>and sabre cav are just for wrecking enemy artillery if they bring it and of course what sabre cav was designed to do- run down fleeing enemy peasants.
Man I love how fast units die in melee in that game. you can easily reach several hundred kills per battle if you play your cards right. also for the fact they don't get stuck on their artillery for too long when you tell them to get them. I found them really hard to use since they take a lot of damage and all units have such high troop counts that it becomes hard to fight them with cav. Guess I should've saved them for taking down fleeing units and artillery pieces

Ye SS mod was precisely for Med 2. Guess Ill stick to it indefinitely

that's fair user, plenty of people still like rome 1
also I don't get that pic, was he disappointed or was he happy with the product? I can't tell the difference between both of the kingdom of heaven pics lel
also based movie poster. God I love that movie

Attached: 411368.jpg (1920x816, 1019.62K)

ye I know, sadly there are no more contenders for the best charges in TW :c. Heard three kingdoms has broken charges but I'm not sure about how kino they look
I gotta try stainless steel sometime. I only played the warhammer and lotr mod for medieval 2. spoiled me from ever going back to the base game
