No, many of the games legitimately do connect to one another. The only thing thats bullshit is neatly trying to place together games like Twilight Princess in the same vein as Windwaker.
Of course they do, they make a new game and then decide its timeline placement. The downfall branch is what most likely came about after the fact because TP made it so the 2D games didn't really fit into the child timeline anymore.
Some connect to what's directly near them, but there's little coherence overall. The NES games could be placed anywhere and the child timeline is very loosely connected, not to mention how fucking stupid it is to have a 3rd branch.
>nintendo just makes this shit up as they go along.
Well, yeah. Obviously when they made TLOZ they didn't realize it would last several decades and over a dozen games. But that doesn't mean that when they're coming up with the next game, that they can't include little hints and details that connect it other games in the series, which is exactly what they did. And that's neat, so people like talking about it.
Do you really want me to look at the archives and find that link with a massive page full of interviews where they talk about the timeline, all of it before Hyrule Historia was a thing?
I got a timeline solution.
Hero of Hyrule prime branch
>Skyward Sword
>Minish Cap (Vaati is sealed)
>Four Swords
>Fours Swords Adventure
(Ganon escapes from the Four Swords and seeks out the Triforce)
>Link to the Past
>Link’s Awakening
>Oracle of Ages and Season
>Link Between Worlds
>Triforce Heroes
>Legend of Zelda
>Adventure of Link
>Age of Calamity
>Breath of the Wild
Hero of Time branch
>Skyward Sword
>Minish Cap (Vaati reconciles with his mentor in the Manga)
>Ocarina of Time (child timeline)
>Majora’s Mask
>Twilight Princess
>Hyrule Warriors
>Age of Calamity
>Breath of the Wild
Hero of Winds branch
>Skyward Sword
>Minish Cap (Vaati reconciles with his mentor in the Manga)
>Ocarina of Time (adult timeline)
>Windwaker
>Phantom Hourglass
>Spirit Tracks
>Age of Calamity
>Breath of the Wild
>The Hyrule Fantasy is the first
>The Adventure of Link is the direct sequel
>A Link to the Past (The Triforce of the Deities in JP) is marketed as the adventure of Link and Zelda's ancestors, even the western name hints at this
>Link's Awakening has a Link with memories of Agahnim and Ganon so it has to be a sequel to A Link to the Past
>Ocarina of Time is developed and marketed as the Imprisoning war, clear prequel to A Link to the Past
>Majora's Mask is developed and marketed as Ocarina of Time sequel, and clearly continues with the story after Navi leaves Link
>Wind Waker even has depictions of the sages of Ocarina of Time, it's a clear sequel too, and Aonuma (I think) already said it was the continuation of "one of the endings" of Ocarina of Time, the game with time travel
>Four Swords was explained by Aonuma as a tale from before any other game, making it a prequel to Ocarina of Time
>Four Swords Adventures has a new Ganondorf separated from the one of Ocarina of Time so it must take place after Four Swords and Ocarina of Time, at least
>Minish Cap explains the origin of the Four Sword, obvious prequel of Four Swords
>Twilight Princess is weird but you can see Ganondorf's backstory fits with the other ending of Ocarina of Time (the one in the child era) so it's a sequel parallel to Wind Waker
>Phantom Hourglass literally has Tetra, clear continuation of Wind Waker
>Spirit Tracks shows what happened in Wind Waker and Phantom Hourglass so it's another obvious sequel
>Skyward Sword is the origin of the hylians, obvious prequel of everything
>A Link Between Worlds (The Triforce of the Gods 2 in JP) can't be more clear about its sequel status, it must take place after A Link to the Past and Link's Awakening
>Breath of the Wild backstory for Ganon has him returning countless times in the past, must be after the original games
The only games without a clear place in the timeline are Oracles and Triforce Heroes
>For Swords Adventures without Ocarina of Time happening before
Impossible, when Ganondorf the Second transforms into the demon king Zelda says it's the "return" of Ganon, that means there was at least 1 game with a Ganon before that game.
>when Ganondorf the Second transforms into the demon king Zelda says it's the "return" of Ganon
what chapter? Ganon was already transformed by the time he finally reveals himself to everyone.
You are right about that, my bad. It's not when he transforms (since we never really see Ganondorf at all, he's always in pig form) but it's when he finally shows up that Zelda talks about the return of Ganon
I just got done watching the final battle, and the closet thing that Zelda says was, "ancient demon reborn", but nothing 100% concrete about it being specifically Ganondorf; due to the King of Darkness is brought upon by having the Trident. It's ambiguous enough that you could interpret it either way.
Aww...is widdle someone's fragile fee-fees all hurty-wurty because their widdle head canon isn't real canon? Poor babby!
I like the idea that the timeline became so convoluted that Nintendo did a soft reset with BotW just so they could stop worrying about it.
Until Nintendo made another split timeline with Age of Calamity.
I kinda wish they'd never revealed it. But then if they didn't, people would still be arguing over timeline theories.
I remember that. They said they had an internal timeline, but they weren't going to release it publicly. I don't think that doesn't mean that they made it up as they went along though. They probably just used it as a loose guide if they wanted to connect some games and changed it as needed.
Maybe in the english version, but japanese Zelda says Ganon is a king of evil brought back by the demon tool, the trident
>間の王… 太古からよみがえった魔の邪器(じゃき)、 トライデントを手にした男!!
He's not a new thread, he's the second coming of a demon king who already tried to destroy Hyrule in the past
>skyward sword is the first game in the timeline
>minish cap is the origin story of the hat, being an eternal homage to a bro
nani?
>thread
*threat
FSA was originally conceived as an Imprisoning War game because there was some sort of sentiment in Nintendo that Ocarina of Time didn't completely line up with LTTP's description of the events, but Miyamoto told them to keep it simple and the idea got dropped.
>He's not a new threat, he's the second coming of a demon king who already tried to destroy Hyrule in the past
We know, but development is irrelevant if the final game is different
Where does the counter guardian Liz fit into the timeline? Did she prevent the first invasion of Ganondorf after OOT adult era but weren't there for the second one?
That's not the Demon King Ganon and he never attacked Hyrule (since Hyrule didn't exist back then).
And no, Ganon isn't the reincarnation of Demise, we already discussed this shit multiples times this month, that's a shitty translation. In japanese Demise only says the bad karma generated in that battle will bite Hylia's ass back, Demise himself will never come back.
How to fix the timeline: Remove all fucking 2D games that no one except for massive spergs played. Only the 3D games matter. When a Zeldatuber mentions a 2D game I close the video.
You know some randos wrote his book and not the creators themselves, right?
Four Swords Adventures had a notoriously bad translation. Nintendo of America REALLY sucks at understanding the nuances of Japanese.
I mean fuck, they translated "This form was born from his obsessive refusal to give up on revival..." to "He has given up on reincarnation and assumed his pure, enraged form." in regards to Calamity Ganon.
HOW do you go from "refusal to give up on revival" to "given-up on reincarnation"?! That takes a special kind of retard.
You're thinking of the Blue Book.
The Green one was done by Aonuma.
>That's not the Demon King Ganon
I never said it was. But a "Demon King reborn" doesn't need to mean literal incarnation.
>he never attacked Hyrule (since Hyrule didn't exist back then).
Modern Hylians would still call the ancient surface Hyrule anyway.
>Ganon isn't the reincarnation of Demise
I know. I am one of those same people who even says that the Ganon in FSA is not a reincarnation of OoT Ganondorf if we go by Nintendo's official timeline.
>Green book was written by Aonuma.
>Same green book has the SS prequel manga written by Akira Himekawa bundled in it.
D-does that make the manga canon?
The timeline makes perfect sense in terms of the main 3D titles (besides BotW) and Wind Waker's sequels.
Its fitting in all the other games and having to come up with the Downfall timeline as an attempt to make sense of them that makes it bullshit.
Despite the complaints, they're usually good when they want to be. BOTW's localization was mostly good, all I could complain about is some tiny things I'm sure no one would care about and some small censorship, but that line you mentioned has had me puzzled since I learned about it. I know people can fuck up when they're translating quickly or it's just been a long day, but that one's a pretty spectacular screw up.
>Four Swords Adventures had a notoriously bad translation
Does it? I played it once like, ten years ago. I barely remember a thing. I've been planning on playing the Japanese version after I finally play the Trials of Mana remake.
Both you guys that keeps parroting things like "it's doesn't make sense, it's bullshit" or "why isn't everything fitting perfectly" are a bunch of sad folks with no imagination.
It's fucking FANTASY. It's called a LEGEND. Learn to enjoy as a world of magic fairy tales with many connected lores instead of thinking so hard why did a mountain changed places, how come fish became birds and why they coexist at the same time now. It's called playing for a reason, and playing it's not just pushing buttons on a controller.
Zelda literally says Ganondorf became the king of evil Ganon thanks to the trident bringing him back, user, the demon king from FSA is Ganon, and the previous demon king Zelda mentions in that game is also Ganon.
FSA is just impossible without Ocarina of Time (unless they come up with a new game that introduce an older Ganondorf/Ganon who appeared even before the era of the hero of time)
Stop pretending to be an apathetic adult that casually plays video games when there no new episodes of desperate housewives.
