Disappointing game of the year for me. Reddit and the steam forums are praising this game, as well as most of the internet, and I just don't know why. Maybe I'm just getting older. Tasi interjects way, way too much. It takes me out of the game. Instead of me reacting to the scares, it feels like I'm just watching a movie or something. TDD was great in this that Daniel didn't talk. You only heard his voice when his memory came out and when you're reading notes, and when his "flashbacks" came back you were still in the game, like you were him. In Rebirth, they're actual flashbacks I really don't care about. The game throws all these characters at you to get you to care about them with pictures and shit but fails. I don't know why people are saying the story is good. The story is terrible to average at best. Can't get a refund because I was holding out hope that the story would get better at least even if it wasn't a scary game, so there goes that. The alien world was interesting though. The environments are nice. One big thing I hated was the soundtrack. It's so forgettable. TDD had Daniel's theme, the water monster chase theme, it was a good soundtrack. Memorable. Here it's forgettable. What a shame. Last time I give Frictional my money. For A Machine for Pigs faults (I know it's made by The Chinese Room, not Frictional), I felt that game had a much more interesting story despite its gameplay.
