Would you guys buy a modernized, throwback system today with:
>no internet connectivity >minimal UI, no apps >no digital downloads or digital distribution >only physical games on disc or cartridge >no dlc, no micrtotransactions, no live-services, no patches, no early access >region-free >no censorship >save data on memory cards or on cartridge >4 player local multiplayer only >only the ability to do 1080p 60fps >maybe portability like Switch
Just a video game system without modern bullshit, essentially. Purely games and gameplay focused. Assuming it sells well, it revives AA games as well as also being a home to indies.
>>no internet connectivity but you could connect to the internet with the dreamcast
Dominic Gray
no because despite the fact that i don't play multiplayer games, i wouldn't trust game devs to carry my groceries, let alone release a video game that doesn't require a day 1 patch to fix horrendous bugs
Brody Harris
>>no internet connectivity
so no patches? fuck off.
Brandon Ward
> modernized, throwback system i hate game remakes why the fuck would i want a console remake
Gavin Davis
For $50 I guess. Else I'll just stick with PC.
Tyler Ortiz
Devs would be encouraged and incentivized to get the game right on the first go, instead of launching half-assed and then MAYBE fixing it later.
Elijah Reed
>>no internet connectivity How the fuck am I supposed to play PSO and Alien Front?
Daniel Turner
Sure, why not?
Jaxson Morris
No, because if I want to play great retro style games, I'll...go play retro games. There's decades worth of old games out there and plenty of hidden gems across all the platforms. Just play those. Also what said, there's absolutely no way a modern dev could make games in a retro style and have them be as good as the originals. Devs are straight up lazy or don't understand what made those games good. It's weird, even though they went to school to learn this stuff and devote their career to making games, they still don't fucking get it.
Jace Peterson
>No internet connectivity
Dumbass the Dreamcast had that
Oliver Sanchez
devs would also be incentivized to stay the fuck away from a system that forces them to get their shit together
Brody Reed
>no internet connectivity why would you want this?
Lincoln Clark
Raspberry pis are 30 dollars and do everything you list except with online multiplayer and portability(if you're one of those faggot nerds)
Owen Carter
Ahaha fucking roasted.
Also while I'm here FUCK remakes. FUCK remasters too, I hate that trend. All you fuckos who want remasters of your classic games are dumb. Just play the original. If the game is so good, why does it need a touch up? Crash 1-3 on ps1 are perfect. So is spyro. Why give devs the easy way out and let them create games that have already been made? It just holds back creativity in the industry. And once the remake is out it lacks all the soul of the original anyway
Adam Cox
why the fuck would they bother developing for that kind of system when they could half-ass it onto playstation and xbox and generate >1000x the profit.
Kayden Cooper
To: >deter devs from relying on patches/updates/roadmaps to fix games >thwart digital games and revive physical ownership as well as used gamea >deter F2P style games >deter the digital distribution of microtransactions, dlcs, and other forms of monetization in games
Michael Reed
Just a thought, and I know it's foolishly utopian, but if enough disgruntled players switch to a system like this as a form of protest towards the current trajectory of gaming, then devs would have to develop for a system that inhibits cancerous modern trends.
Aaron Evans
>no internet connectivity some of us have no friends in real life op
problem is no one is gonna develop shit for it then besides others home brew
Charles Myers
Damn, based posts. I thought I was the only one who hated video game remakes.
Asher Torres
Game console needs this stuff and only this stuff: >backwards compatability >online play >ability to play DVDs >ACTUAL GOOD GAMES That's it. Anything else is superfluous.
Hunter Sanders
>save data on memory card or on cartridge This was never good. Having the option is fine, but if you have to buy a gadget just to save your game and that thing also has limited storage, that just sucks ass.
Justin Walker
Only indie titles would ever get released on such a thing.
Cooper Nelson
>I thought I was the only one who hated video game remakes.
Retard who thought he was a special snowflake. There have always been negative sentiments about remakes. An obvious case are those worthless Disney Live Action remakes that many despise.
Carter Martin
I absolutely would.
I would even settle for a direct step back in terms of performance/resolution if the games were fun.
Mason Hughes
>no internet connectivity >no dlc >4 player local multiplayer only >no digital downloads or digital distribution the dreamcast had all of that you fucking faggot
Josiah Moore
This shit sounds like some glorified chink retro handheld Might as well buy a raspberry pi and be done with it rather that wait for BRAND to market it to you
Lucas Torres
>DVDs yeah and it needs to project 8mm and 16mm film too
Joshua Kelly
why would you want to stop patches? sometimes its actually necessary. and why would you want no online play in this day in age? wouldnt the console just die upon release? also theres nothing wrong with DLC as long as it isnt scummy
David Barnes
i forgot to say that it had online multiplayer, that's why i put the >4 player local multiplayer only
Blake Jackson
with electronics getting increasing cheaper and complex, maybe we'll be having compact, indie consoles as powerful and performant as a PS2 in a not so distant future?
Christian Cruz
also to add onto this, sega games like puyo puyo would just stop existing.
Bentley King
what if instead of imagining a fantasy console with retardedly restricted features you proposed ownership laws that protect the consumer
Colton Torres
an "indie console" would flop hard if it was anything other than a reliable low-end PC
Grayson White
I want a Dreamcast Mini with internet connectivity and a digital game shop on it.
Christian Walker
Not really. The cost to manufacture that shit is way too high. Atari/colecovision tried this bullshit and it bled them millions
Austin Reyes
> >no internet connectivity No. I like to play multiplayer from time to time. > >minimal UI, no apps Yes. > >no digital downloads or digital distribution, only physical games on disc or cartridge No. Having physical copies is good, but if it's some small, old, or very cheap game I prefer to buy it online. > >no dlc, no micrtotransactions, no live-services, no patches, no early access >no dlc >no patches Of course not. > >region-free Isn't any console region-free nowadays? > >no censorship Yes. > >save data on memory cards or on cartridge Only if it's an option for making backups. > >4 player local multiplayer only >only No. How the fuck am I supposed to play with my homies who live in couple time zones from me? > >only the ability to do 1080p 60fps Yes. > >maybe portability like Switch Yes.
Ayden Baker
Nowaday, saying Merry Xmas would be considered not inclusive, so no.
Isaiah Price
but we already got a Dreamcast 2 and it was great:
you have to be a pissed off boomer that cant accept the fact people prefer multiplayer to single player games nowadays and arent playing in the living room with their families anymore, instead playing online with friends. there is just no other explanation
You know the original Dreamcast had almost none of those ''Positives'' Do you?
Leo Cruz
When it came to internet connectivity, not only did it have that, it was better at it than the rest of the gen 6 gang. It even had crossplay for select few games(Quake 3 and UT I believe).
