What makes a game age well?

What makes a game age well?

not having trannies and niggers as main characters

Replay this once every two years or so and it never gets old

This, no doubt about it.

Games that do whatever witchcraft Visceral Games did to make a game from 2008 still look amazing 12 fucking years later

fpbp

artstyle over sheer tech
not falling into the trends of the current four year cycle
randomized elements in regular playthroughs

This and decent gameplay.

Textures are shit though.

>that armor and helmet
hng
I googled the art directors name and he worked on the mandalorian too
figures

for me, it's the water

Having decent visuals overall, even if it's not as technologically impressive as something more modern
Having fun gameplay that even when it's not as "smooth" or streamlined as a more modern game, is still easy enough to adjust to.
Not blatantly being a part of some fad from the time period (though in some cases this can actually make a game more interesting to go back to)

This unironically plays a part, provided you mean flavor of the decade progress points.
For instance we had all those "badass" women in the 90s and early 00s. Everyone see it as the cringe it is today (Lara Croft being perhaps the only exception but old Lara is completely out of pop culture now). Even the feminists now dislike it and favor other female types.
Meanwhile the (white) human male, at least partially buff and stoic, is truly timeless.

Good art design and fun gameplay that manages to be good on its own merits and not just compared to what was current at the time.

Far Cry>Half Life 2>Doom 3

Being designed around a specific platform which excels in certain tasks, making it hard to recreate or improve on newer more homogeneous platforms.

Visually?
Good lighting and animation.

I used to think this game was the hardest shit ever.
Of course playing this on a shitty Pentium 4 with 256MB of RAM and a fucking FX5200 at 800*600 at sub 30 fps while having loading times of several minutes didn't help.
Never replayed it since, maybe I should.

Good art direction.

Isn't this one of the few games that had the cancelled OICW?

good lighting, and a dedicated art style that they dont deviate from
halo 3 will hold up to the end of time for this

The gameplay is fun

Did they fix the MCC yet?

The a.i is still bullshit even played today.

Imagine having such a shit taste.

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHA

San Andreas disagrees

Style and Grace

If the rumors of a Mass Effect remaster are true I sure as hell hope they consider remastering Dead Space as well, the game doesn't "need" it but it sure as hell deserves it

based

Reminder that Far Cry was like the 2nd fps after Halo to freely incorporate vehicles into gameplay like that.

>the game doesn't "need"
On PC it does

nigger games that revolve around pure nigger culture are the exception

regular games shouldn't have nigger, tranny or ugly female main characters

All DS needs is a mousefix and some higher resolution textures as it plays just fine.

Having a cool and unique style, like Jet Set Radio, Okami, Kirby Epic Yarn, Rayman Origins/Legends, or Zelda Wind Waker, or Journey, all "realistic" games will end up looking like shit eventually, games that try to be unique and approach their graphics with a unique style in mind will forever look nice.

Far Cry was fine until the part with the mutants then it becomes one of the most frustrating games of all time.

Its only bullshit if you don't install the fan patch that fixes the AI being able to see through walls.

You know they'll just make it look worse

good artstyle

I mean stuff like FOV, the fucking awful mouse controls, vsync, etc.

games don't age, only your perception of it does

Artstyle

I just wish I started playing TXR and RRT4 earlier

When the sequel is worse. I'd post a pic of Rage 2 but I can't be assed to download one.

Yes.

An artystyle that strives for something other than realism at the expense of everything, and presents an experience that can't be boiled down to one or two cliches or concepts.
