PS5 will sell at minimum 3x more than Xbox so they can't afford to waste time with irrelevant pretty packaging.
Also less money wasted, I can assure you that's at least $5 MS is losing per unit sold relative to PS5 (In the field I work in it would be much more but their scale is much bigger - either way it's still a substancial impact)

PS5 packaging is really awkward you see this in the unboxing videos where they had to take it out on it's side or rip the box off(dont rip the box of by the way just in case yours is defective so you can have it replaced/fixed)
