Why is nobody copying certain succesful game types, Zig Forums? (see X-COM, grand strategy, battlefield, asscreed, team fortress etc.)

They all are only made by single game companies. Is it so hard to copy these games? (obviously with another name&changed setting/characters)

But there are quite a few NuXCOM-likes

Xcom is copied like shit. It's just that most of those games fail to achieve any relevance.

What are you talking about? I can't go a fucking month without finding a game with a dozen "It's like X-Com meets ____" reviews. I swim through games that self-describe as X-Com. Sick of that shit.

Mutant Year Zero was a last playable Xcom-like game

Mario Raving Rabbids is a better xcom game than Xcom

Because X-com is perfect. Imagine playing this and thinking "yeah, I could do better..." You can't. It's the best PC game of all time.

So what the deal with thin men? Did they always have snake tits? Or were they snake people, came to earth, liked the titts, asked the elders for rockin tits as a reward for taking over earth?

SNAKE
TITS

1. They don't have as large a potential player base as over the shoulder action movie games or sports games.
2. Yes they are hard to copy. Besides XCOM, the games you listed are expensive to do well and grand strategy requires particularly niche AI expertise to do well.

When you make a big game you have to raise money to put together a development team. Then you have to make a profit on your project if you want your career to continue. If you're going to make a game in a niche genre you better do it cheap or well.

Also Xcom 2 blows, go fuck yourselves.

>xcom
based, i actually started playing nu xcom recently

What don’t you like about XCOM 2?

Because those games took a lot of time developing and changing to be the final product. Further it took a lot of tweaks and balances to those games to have the games work as well as they do. People who copy or make games in the same genre don't take the time to balance and tweak as those studios who had to pioneer every aspect of the game they take inspiration from.

Or so I imagine.

This, see games like Phoenix Point.
The problem is, for whatever reason, they're all fucking shit.
X-COM 2 WotC is still the best we got.

The big mystery to me is games like skyrim and the newer fallout titles. They have simplistic and janky combat mechanics and are made of vast quantities of endlessly repeated copypaste assets, yet were showered with awards and made mindboggling quantities of money. It'd be free money to rip off the idea.

Sexy

Yeah

Welp

>is better than Xcom

Hot snake

X-Com has a more uncommon premise that is executed well and is still something with mass appeal.
The other factor is that it does a perfect mix of on the ground tactics and in the base strategy (the failure of which is why Chimera Squad is shit), most games that try to clone it lean too far in one direction.

>embrace snek

>fix overpowered broken must-take ability by making it even more overpowered and broken
Battletech is traaaaaaaaaaaaash

Can some anons post some good xcom stories. I got a link to that pastbin forever ago btu man, theres a lot of shit on here with only very rare good stuff.

OH MY GOD I WANT TO FUCK VIPERS SO BAD

Better question:
WHERE THE FUCK IS XCOM 3 ????

My best guy had 99% chance to hit but missed and died instead.

NOOOOOOOOO

WHERE IS IT JAKE

I wish someone made his take on Kingdom under Fire: Heroes. I guess it's too niche

OP, you’re a complete moron. All of those games have clones. Also, you can’t clone a genre.

>long war 3 never ever

>tftd 2 never ever
Every standard enemy carrying the equivalent of a blaster launcher was fucking retarded but fuck you I liked it.

Phoenix Point tried but I don't know anybody who ever talks about it and I'm certainly not going to make an Epic account just to try it out.

th fuck are you talking about? they JUST released a transformers based xcom clone. now if it lives up to what it's trying to clone or not, is a different matter.

I don't get what you mean. The games you listed all have several clones except maybe grand strategy. The problem is that they're mostly shit.
>Xcom
Phoenix point, Xenonauts
>Battlefield
CoD, Medal of Honor
>asscreed aka generic open world third person action game
Witcher 3
>team fortress
Overwatch, Paladins

TftD was my first x-com when I got it as a freebie on some pc mag's cd. After that all other x-com titles felt like a downgrade. Although Apocalypse was a decent attempt to shake things up, a shame the development cycle was a mess.

battletech?

Most people are attached to the brands. People won't play non-paradox grand strat. People HAVE tried, the fact you haven't heard about them speaks to their success.
Tactics games aren't anything new, dunno what you mean by 'xcomlike'.
battlefield was copied in cod warzone which has seen enormous success.
asscreed stopped being popular shortly after it started being popular. What exactly about it isn't copied though? I guess the storyline and terrible combat.
team fortress? overwatch.

Terran Shield. But it's monkeypawed because it's being developed by gypsies.
