IT LOOKS LIKE A FUCKING CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE

Anti-piracy measure.

You know what they say, good things come in small packages.

>compressed textures out the ass for all the tony hawk games plus shit controls for them
No

>gamecube disc: 1.46GB capacity
>ps2 disc: 4.7gb single-layer, 8.5gb dual-layer
why did nintendo do this? just imagine how much better and actually finished their games could have been...

Nintendo was always obsessive about controlling the entire production line of their games. The N64 was a cart because they did not want to pay royalties to the companies that own the CD format, and the same was right for the mini-discs on the gamecube.

Coincidentally, Sony is part of the group that owns CD, DVD and Blueray, so every time you buy a game in any of those formats for any console, Sony gets a cut.

The read times are faster.

>remember that Nintendo ditches Sony for THIS

nintendo got smol peepee

Mostly this.

yet the games are smaller than PS2 games and extremely easy to download now to their puny size

CD was a Phillips standard if I'm not mistaken, I don't think Sony was a part of the consortium. Minidiscs are literally the exact same technology as CD. As for DVD, I don't recall if it's an open format or not but I think they were (I could be wrong). BD is a Sony standard, it isn't owned by anyone else, which is funny when you imagine that Microsoft has to pay licensing fees to their primary competitor. As for cartridge autismo, cartridges are an intrinsically better standard for games and Nintendo shouldn't have ditched them after the N64. It took a while for the technology to get cheaper, but it's a much better format than Discs, there isn't even a debate here.

1.4GB

Nintendo doesn't give a fuck if you emulate Gamecube Iso's in 2020 retard.
The point was to stop you burning shit onto discs easier you fucking zoomer.

What happened to HD-DVDs?

players dicks too big

The Game Cube was the worst Nintendo console with the worst Nintendo games

it was huge for toddlers

>disc is the package
THE ABSOLUTE NINTARD

Didn't Sony create the DVD+R out of some "our system is better" spite which meant nothing to the end consumer?
Cartridges severely lagged behind in storage space and cost compared to disc media for the longest time. Using them for GC would have been madness.

BlueRay won and MS abandoned it.

I wonder what happened to him. Did he die?

Yes

Nintendo's autistic desire to be different

More specifically, WB dropped their support in favor of Blu-Rays and everyone jumped ship right after. It was one of the fastest deaths for a piece of equipment that I can ever remember.

Who gives a shit, their goal was to avoid what was happening to the DreamCast at the time: people with entire libraries of pirated games almost as soon as they came out.

they were actually normal size, you were just bigger in those days

no they were smaller than PS1's discs

The CDI gave us ytp, so it was worth it

While part of it is an anti-piracy measure, looking at the evidence we have now I think it's reasonable to assume Nintendo had plans to work toward a 'portable' Gamecube. You might say that's crazy but I said 'portable' not 'handheld', they tried to make a stereoscopic 3D screen for it, the game boy player add-on made it more cube like, the thing had a damn handle for carrying it around. Oh and this diagram supposedly from one of the recent leaks
