At face value there is nothing wrong with microtransactions, they are optional, you get something in return and the developers get extra revenue.
Where they suck is when you compare with how things were before microtransactions. Back in 2004 you paid $60, got a fully finished working product on day 1 with all the content included and cosmetics and extra stuff as unlockables. It's not about predatory monetization schemes, it's about what was taken away from games, they are now designed from the ground up to account for microtransactions.
There was a fundamental shift in how games make money, it went from get $ by selling games that people like to make $ by selling xp packs and palette swaps in game that people hate.
