Unironically it depends on the MMO.

If you are playing a themepark flavor of the expancion MMO, like wow or FFXIV where there is no ral reason to ever talk to anyone, then it's not going to happen.

NOW, if there IS a reason to talk to someone, like in SRO, BDO or some other similar game, where there is PvP pressure constantly, then talking to people happens organically, perhaps bit more than one would like at times.
