Zig Forums is to young to and gay to play W1

is Witcher 1 worth playing? How much RP is involved/how linear is it?

It's THE best game in the series, no matter what seething consolicux say.
It's also THE most role-play heavy, and has tons of variety + replay value.

t. done 4 playthroughs already, and wouldn't mind doing the 5th soon.

Ok good to hear. Time to jump in.

I tried playing The Witcher once

Of all the terrible combat systems in all the games, this one has the worst. If you actually read the books you'd realise how retarded the story is in comparison. Both Triss and Shani are completely unappealing as love interests and devoid of any character. Even on highest difficulty, the enemies were a cakewalk.

This game was saved by atmosphere and decent source material alone.

Shani or Triss?

fuck I need to replay this. Last time I booted it up was 2014 according to my steam. But I still remember like 90% of it

Attaboy. If you've not played a single CRPG before, prepare for some steep learning curve.
Think it more like a top-down RPG of the old times (you can even play it as such), and it starts making more sense. Mouse is your main way of controlling things.

>Of all the terrible combat systems in all the games, this one has the worst
Fuck you zoomer virgin. TW1's combat is THE absolutely best, most comfy and flashy of them all.
And that's not even touching the rest of the gameplay, which obviously won't make any sense to the action-fags who think that combat == gameplay.

Last but not least, the cast was THE most likable and like in the Novels in TW1. They totally fucked them all up in sequels.

Still not sure why they omitted Yenn from 1
>rock paper scissors combat
>good
Though it was less frustrating than the combat in the witcher 2 I guess. And yeah I agree with your picture, the inventory system in the witcher 2 was also annoying to navigate by comparison

You know you don't get to be cool just for liking things no one else likes.

Shani, fuck mages

Yep, W1 is also my favorite.
The other ones are good, sure, but W1 is the best.

>TW1's combat is THE absolutely best, most comfy and flashy of them all.
Being this unironically retarded

I'm sorry that not every game is another shitty DaS clone, and that not everyone wants them to be that either.
Do I also need to reveal to you kids that TW1 was a literal GOTY winner in 2007? Shame you missed that.

I really enjoyed the first game. Fantastic atmosphere. Only played it in all honesty because I was excited for 2. Finished the first in about 30 hours. Played 10 hours of 2 and dropped it. Tedious and hideous.

3 improved a lot on 2 but didn't feel like a successor to 2. It's a decent game I think but didn't have that extra something to hook me in. The main quest was boring too. Didn't finish it but liked some aspects of the adventuring. Wish it was chapters instead of open world.

Shani

Like a successor to 1 I meant

Thread full of zoomers, niggers and mutts playing the game only after W3 came out. Fuck off and play mutt shit designed for you, W2 and W3. And leave this game alone.

Witcher 1 and the franchise in general plays like shit. Doesn't matter if you're a zoomer or boomer. It's just Tolkien-Fanfiction written by Slavjanks. You can't refute this.

Change my mind.

>tedious and hideous
i mean sure, i understand finding TW2 tedious at times but hideous? We both know you're lying about that user, witcher 2 still holds up estetically, and the atmosphere Is top notch, come on dude.

just completed this for the first time and...it was a mixed bag

played it on hard, other times it felt just right, other times it was still braindead easy and monotonous and sometimes there were just annoying spikes of difficulty that didnt feel like they had any place in a game like this since the solution was usually to run around in a circle trying to combat the shitty jank of the game

I think the game was a bit too long and wide rather than dense for its own good because the exact same systems that feel rewarding and smart at the start (everything that has to do with the preparation to monster killing) just loses its power the longer the game goes on and if anything youre fighting against your lack of fucking inventory space with your giant piles of loot and herbs and potions. Staying coked up on swallow at all times + a situational potion so you wont go too toxic also seems like a very dominant strategy without a lot of thought in it

Also the game does some really weird things with its content and im assuming its just because of the development process being some sort of clusterfuck with CDPR trying to ship out a game of such epic scale but I can say for the very least that it feels slightly retarded to kill fucking Dagon and his worshippers on some altar with epic chanting on the background and then go report to some near nameless rich mook in an Inn that you killed said cosmic abomination for your measly orens while I cant even tell what any of it has to do with the story progressing

In fact the entire main quest of the game is extremely weird and bounces back and forth between feeling like menial and meaningless and instantly skyrocketing into weirdly epic proportions at the very end. I dont mind a story with a smaller scale but It felt more like Azar javed was some monday morning cartoon villain for the most of the game

I’ll take Tolkien-FanFiction over Game of Fags diarrhea brap any day of the week. All the games do play like ass though I admit that.

I played it late December 2013 and early 2014. Peak kino and fun game.

Why the fuck do older games look so nice compared to newer ones? It's like newer games are like some colorful costume that has been washed out so many times the colors are all greyed.

Idk man, read up a bit on wiki, Geralt is clearly inspired by Elric of Melnibone, and Michael Moorcok said he didnt like Lotr

check out the rtx bro

>Change my mind.
fuck you nigger
suck a shotgun

this game's art was pure fucking soul

the fucking sharpening and excessive bloom takes it down a notch, still looks pretty good though

Chapter 2 of this game was the most confusing shit ever. It's made even more pointless the moment you discover the detectives body in the crypt. Other than that, it's a great game and one of my all time favourite RPGs.

Make sure you get the uncensored version.
They took the tits our in some regions.

>Steam

older games don't use post processing, everything is nice and crisp, no useless visual clutter shitting up your view
pic related, fucking vice city looks great at a high resolution yet most games of the brown n bloom era look like absolute shit

>Witcher was made on the Aurora engine
Still boggles the mind that this is the same engine they used to make Neverwinter games.

The world in 1 feels so much more alive than it did in 2 and 3

I keep wondering if it's my monitor that's shit compared to CRT monitor, but nope, it's just that new games look like shit with washed out colors.

Witcher 1, Gothic, Fallout 1/2, etc. are such utter dogshit. I'm so glad boomers are irrelevant online now.

>OLD GOOD
>NEW BAD

There an interview with cdpr about the development of witcher1 (in polish though) and the programmer said they just got the source code of the neverwinter nights at whatever state it was left last time before releasing the final game, it wasn't an engine ready for licensing or anything like that. In some sence witcher1 is just one big commercial total conversion mod

I always felt like a weirdo for liking the combat. It's more than good enough for this type of RPG.

>Of all the terrible combat systems in all the games, this one has the worst
None of the games have good combat, I liked the rhythm game bullshit more than I did playing Geralt the rolling tank.

I don't get why Yen wasn't in 1 either. Maybe they had the entire story of the trilogy already mapped out but I doubt that. Triss is basically Yen in this game and neither Yen nor Ciri are ever mentioned. Only the innkeeper in chapter 4 mentions Ciri, no other character, which I found really weird.

I liked all three but 2 and 3 (but especially 2) were much less bleak and... I don't want to say generic, but a really big tonal shift from the first game world.
2 was a fucking candyland (and it was really clashing with all the fucked up shit going on in it) compared to 1.
World in 3 was outstandingly well put together from technical side, but it had only like 2 or 3 locations that really took me back to the first game.
