figuratively possible

Just got to Monke. Not nearly as hard as I thought but I guess I'm about to get reamed by the second phase.

Possibly literal

Not that hard. There's a method to beat him.

Kek too stupid to remember his moves and attacks

>struggle like hell when the game launched
>don't even manage to beat sword saint
>came back to the game last week
>beating every boss on the first attempt, even while making stupid mistakes
I don't understand myself

Do not hesitate, and you will beat every boss in the game

How am i supposed to beat the monk on ng+3? One wrong parry and my posture bar is already half full

Snap seeds, Fistful of Ashes, and Firecrackers.

Once you learn the game better, his second phase is super easy and his first phase is the only challenge.
I'll leave you with this though: When he jumps really high in second phase, double jump.

You don't break posture if you parry, so you can keep at max posture and still be fine. But if you really want to know
you can deathblow the 2nd phase for an instant kill. When it summons the shadow versions, get onto a branch and jump onto it's real body (it will be almost invisible, but the deathblow dot will appear when you jump)
and you can even annihilate 3rd phase no problem by spamming firecrackers at the beginning of the phase. It will always start with this spinning spam attack, and it has a fairly big startup. So if you stop her by using firecrackers at a right time you can wail on her throughout the whole stun duration + one or two more attacks in the startup animation. Repeat 10 times to kill her before she even attacks.

You gotta slice down her health quick so that your posture damage sticks. Otherwise, parrying doesn't do any good. Monk is slow and deliberate, though. Her main problem is that she likes to "fill" the area with her slow, deliberate, easy-to-time attacks. Rather than attempting to hit her with a full combo, try just popping in a single whirlwind slash between her attacks.

Imagine playing this garbage of a game.

Owl (Father) is a primal struggle, and overcoming him is one of the greatest gaming moments in a person's life.

Beat him before Isshin or Demon of Hatred, it was probably the hardest thing I've ever done in a game. Isshin was a joke afterwards.

Cursed with mediocrity i can merely win.
I'll never be good enough to style.

did they remove the demon of hatred cheese method? I really wanna do the gauntlet but not if I have to fight him legitimately

They did not. The Gauntlet version of DoH has his health reduced by a fair bit though, so it’s really not that hard of an encounter.

No they didn’t. Some people claim they nerfed his health in then gauntlet, but it doesn’t feel like it to me.

How the fuck do you fight him legitimately besides taking pokes at him occasionally? I've memorized his moves already. What am I missing?

it's fairly easy to, during a bunch of his moves, dodge behind him and just start hitting on him
for the rest, don't get hit
oh and liberally abuse malcontent on phase 3

You just poke him. You perfect your dodge timings to maximize your dps, use consumables to buff your damage. You can use the umbrella to deflect some moves like the foot stomp and follow up with projected force for good damage rather than getting locked into a long deflect animation. 3rd phase break out malcontent and either mortal draw or axe spin to win on his arse. Still a slog though, always a slog.

>taking pokes at him occasionally?
You can wail on him a lot. I just run around him whenever he attacks. Usually running by the no-arm side works, though there are some attacks where you have to choose the other side. Either way, his openings are pretty big, and if you use divine confetti, he goes down fairly quickly. Also you can destroy the 3rd phase by using malcontent 3 times for free hits.

Yeah he was pretty hard until I realized you could block his fire crackers with the umbrella. Became cakewalk after that.

i've come to accept that playing on significant NG+ levels means that a failed parry will kill me half the time since there's no good way to manage posture at that point

Thank you for the tips.

Yep. Same with charmless. That’s the goal of playing those levels, to push you to a point were you deflect (almost) everything.

Definitely the hardest boss in the game for me, I felt so fucking good when I finally beat him

Be super aggressive and he becomes easy as fuck

Did they make the folding screen monkeys harder? I can’t hit them with shuriken anymore

I just did them and it was honestly a bit if a joke. I'm nit sure if I git lucky or something but Green died imemdiately, I managed to catch Orange mid jump, Yellow cornered himself, and Purple just stood in one room until I walked in and murdered him.

No and you can even see all the remnants of people doing the parkour required for it.
