Or should I keep waiting for an eveb better deal? (hardware/tech/price wise, facebook jailbreak is right around the corner)
Is it time to bite the VR bullet?

Don't be fooled by oculus. It also locks down all apps and heavily censors them. Like in their VRchat you can only choose from a preselected pool of avatars and safe worlds only. You cannot add in your own nor copy another person's avatar.
wait for the Reverb G2
>their VRchat
As in a VRChat clone, or the actual one?
Is it the same if I connect it to a good gaming pc?
I must admit part of the appeal is the cheap price since I've never actually tried vr before.
Why do I see vrfags talking about Asett Corsa recently?
Why do people pretend to like VR?
No one is pretending
Can't you load the steam version in the Oculus?
You'll need an oculus link cable $80 to connect to your pc. From there it will act as a Rift headset and can play vr steam games normally. If you want to experience vr for cheap you can get the quest 2. Not sure how laggy it will be though
Wait until this thing is jailbroken before touching it.
You do know you can use link or virtual desktop right?
What link cable do you guys use
My Sarlar one stopped working
Make throwaway FB account
Setup headset
Block internet access to headset
Only play on PC
Official Link Cable
If you don't wanna spend $80, just buy a Cable Matters Extension and any USB 3.0 cable that is 10ft
Fucked up, meant this amazon.com
Just wait OP
>vive comes out
>just wait bro
>rift cv1 comes out
>just wait bro
>quest comes out
>just wait bro
>index comes out
>too expensive just wait bro
>quest 2 comes out
>just wait bro
Quest 2 is good for the price if you don't mind being a slave of Facebook and don't need FBT.
Quest 3 will come out next year.
>not waiting for Quest 4
Do you just extend that with the short cable that comes with Quest 2?
Wrong. Virtual desktop app costs like 15 bucks and it works wirelessly and as well as your router will allow it to. Latency is not noticeable.
>quest 4
>when index 2 is just around the corner
You should not use the cable that comes with the quest. It's USB 2.0 which stutters a lot on both Quest 1 and Quest 2
Better off getting a USB 3.0 cable aslong as it has usbc on one end
getting the cable would likely improve the latency regardless wouldn't it?
You need a wifi 6 or else the latency will be shit. Enjoy puking your stomach out.
I just don't know if the quest 2 is supposed to be worth buying when I have a pc that can run the rift s
is the rift s plagued by the facebook as bad as the shit I've read about the quest 2?
How well would the USB 3.0 cable be compared to the official link cable?
bullshit, but anyways you can get a wifi 6 router for $80 and even then a lot of people use wifi 5 just fine as long as it's not the router your isp provides
Quest 2 is better than Rift S in terms of hardware and new Rift S units require a Facebook account just as well.
I bought a quest earlier this year, rather my girlfriend bought it for me but we returned it for a quest 2 because it was vastly superior and ours was still in the return window.
I'll tell you from my perspective the reasons to buy into VR.
1. Price. Finally if you pay for a VR console, you are getting something that is valuable. I would equate it's value to that of a nintendo switch if you buy a quest 2.
2. Performance. A lot of earlier VR and even current VR is extremely expensive and you would still need a monster PC to run it. Quest 2 with questlink happens to work amazingly with my beastly PC. It also serves admirably as a standalone console, so if you don't have PC you are getting something more than capable of playing dozens of worthwhile games.
3. Games. In recent years there wasn't a huge variety of games to play. Beat Saber. Saints and Sinner. Valhalla. Vader Immortal. Echo VR. Pavlov. Tons of PC games including Skyrim, Minecraft, subnautica. There are so many games now that's not an excuse really anymore.
4. Social experiences / new technology. This is a different way to play video games. It's not like playing games on PC or console. It's a totally new realm. The social experiences are really worth it, especially if you have friends with VR, but even if you don't games like VR chat / rec room provide as much as you could ever want. Then there are things like roller coaster simulation, 3D cinema, live performances, the kinds of things just not available on any other platform.
There are cons however to the quest 2.
Facebook. They have literally poisoned the well. If you hate Facebook or think you may someday get banned for some reason or get in a lot of fights on the platform, DO NOT BUY. you can lose all of your shit, and that's that. Also, they have been known to have shit customer service.
Besides that IPD. you may not be able to comfortably play on quest 2 if you don't have the right distance between your pupils. Interpupillary distance
They're the same quality, the only difference is the official one can both charge and play and it's usbc to usbc while being one long cable. In comparison every other usb 3.0 cable maximum length is 10ft without an extender.
No but seriously the new Wifi 6e will come out soon this year. Wouldn't surprise me if the quest 3 will be out next year with support for it then.
Get SMASHED by the patriarchy
You can use a usb a-c cable just fine. I bought one online for $15 and used it for HL Alyx. It worked great
does a fake puppet facebook account work or do they make you verify and be active?
All those updates have been big improvements. I'd say by 2030 you'll have VR that's as real as real life.
excitement for the future. we all know what this will eventually be, despite the fact everything we have now is nothing more than tv on your face and you only get an hr out of it a month at best
