What went wrong?
What went wrong?
Absolutely nothing. I started using gog galaxy last year and I've never went back.
Playnite exists
it needs more UI customization, but it's great
when I launch a GoG game through it my Steam friends can’t see me playing it
Kind of weird UI but also is better than steam in some ways. I’d switch over completely if my friends used it.
They sell DRMed games now so there's no reason to use it over Steam.
this
that's not true, at all
I own games on lots of different storefronts and this helps keep it simple. Plus the UI looks nice. GOG is a yes for me.
I won't give my credit card information to this company and they lack payment options in general.
>he doesn't know
They're now selling Epic games that use their DRM through Galaxy. It's over.
Lutris and Playnite exist.
first you will tell me what's wrong
THEY (gog.com) do NOT sell any game with DRM. You introduce your Epic Store account and purchase a game. It's just a fucking glorified browser. You buy your games ON THE EPIC STORE.
And you CAN'T play your Epic games through Galaxy. Epic client is required.
imagine thinking this matters.
>he still doesn't know
It's not just Epic account linking anymore. They're selling DRMed games.
how profitable is their business model? are they more idealists than business? what are their margins?
ultimately, it seems like a foolhardy business plan "praying" on the good intentions of gamers (one of the worst demographics to market towards)
how have they managed to maintain themselves for this long and succeed in the way they have? I'm truly baffled by it.
do you understand what an API is? gog galaxy store is a glorified browser, and gog.com do not sell DRM games, period
not him but this doesn't really refute what he's saying, which is that you might buy the game through GoG but all you bought was the right to launch it via the EGS, similar to how buying ubishit games from Steam works where you still have to install uplay and launch them from that (launching them from steam just does that).
do you mean that you can buy an EGS game on GoG and play it without installing EGS?
They sell games that used to be physical only and make them work on Windows 10. There are tons of 98/XP games still not playable on W10.
>do you mean that you can buy an EGS game on GoG and play it without installing EGS?
This is getting pretty desperate. They're selling DRMed games in their client, a transaction between you and CDPR in CDPR's software. Does it launching EGS to manage that DRM rather than a Denuvo loader make a difference? Do we say it's not DRM because of that? GoG now sells DRMed games. It's over.
it's barely profitable
what went so wrong bros?
it's a technicality but it's far from desperate, the point is that any game you can play directly from GoG will be DRM free. the games you're talking about can't be played directly from GoG. seems pretty straightforward. it's just a nice little circlejerk for the retailers I guess. not defending it, just saying
>They're selling DRMed games in their client
They'r selling KEYS for DRMed games through the Epic Store's API in their OPTIONAL client, gog.com is fully DRM free
it is barely profitable but it seems enough PC gamers have enough of a conscience to not pirate the easily piratable
so confusing, i'm gonna die
I won't refute you on that but I will reiterate that all games sold on the GOG.com store (not Galaxy) have DRM-free single-player
Nothing, it flopped like the shitty project it is and I'm so fucking happy it flopped. Imagine having this replacing separate installers and GOG becomes a shitty storefront with it's own DRM.
what's the point of using galaxy then?
It's just a shitty Steam knockoff now. There's no reason to use it.
hmm. ooh.. well... seethe tranny(?
The only good option of these is cloud save but that's fucking it. Usually developers make updates with shitty balances so I'd stay with the older versions. Rest are frivolous Steam additions.
Thanks user, I now feel better with my decision of deleting that shit of my pc
>typical game studio: here’s our game but we made it so you can’t steal it. pay up
>you: oh yeah fuck u *pirate*
>CDPR: here’s our game without any locks on it. it’d be cool if you bought it and supported us. we put our all into it
>you: o-ok man np
based gog bros
nothing, galaxy 2.0 is fucking amazing. if 95%+ of my library wasn't steam, i'd use it instead of steam.
