Not true, there is evidence found throughout the city that points to the present day pastor being an occultist too in addition to the past priest. That wasn't in his head.

Wow you guys are dumb as fuck, endless evidence in the game of the priest performing satanic rituals, he even wrote he needed a pure vessel to summon Satan. The ladder shakes to the attic by itself in the intro and there is a demon hand next to his sister.

There was real supernatural shit too, it was just subtle.

It went over most people's heads. Can't expect everyone to get it I guess.

It's a shame. Until dawn was so damn good.

The problem with that is that it doesn't actually serve the story in any way. Nothing supernatural is going on during the events of the story, it's just a guilt ridden man carrying the ghost of his family on a trip through town. We never see the modern day version of the Priest in the flesh, we never have Andrew realise it was spookiness that started the fire that claimed his family. None of it actually mattered in any way at all and will never be touched on because it's a self-contained story.

The actual narrative driving the game forward wasn't about the Witch Trials. Wasn't about satanic rituals and demons. Wasn't about any of that. That was all fluff to make people think it was a horror game since that's all they showed off in the trailers. None of it had any actual impact on the story Supermassive were telling.

This is actually the crux of the problem, in the lead up to the game, and in all of the trailers and marketing the story was:

>People trapped in abandoned fog hill town chased by monsters that resemble themselves who were put to death during the Witch trials. Can they escape?

When the actual game was about:

>A boy with survivors guilt was the only survivor of a house fire that claimed his family. He blunders around his old house trying to finally move on from the tragedy that has scarred him for life.

It's two completely separate stories where, even if you add some slight hints at demons and rituals to the second narrative, it doesn't actually change the story we were told.

TL;DR It was a bait and switch.

It was actually my favorite Dark Pictures game until that ending.

Could have been a kino story about reincarnation, trapped spirits, Satanism and redemption.

Except the so called best ending is them dying in all horrifying and gruesome way. I don't see how that will let their spirit finally rest.

I actually worked on the games before being fired for touching up a colleague, no it's okay, I really did do it. Anyway the 4th game if you have completed savefiles from the first three will reveal you are a therapist and the curator is your patient.

The demonic spirit the present day priest summoned. You can find evidence for this by finding the priests documents.

This, the priest was doing rituals on the little girl and really did summon a demon.

So basically, there was potentially a real danger plot, they just said fuck it after the set up and went psychology is deep?

I mean, I honestly believe he was navigating purgatory with the spirits of his family. There is a reason the bus is called ferryman and he is the bus driver. You get through town with them to the diner, and they are put to rest.

Honestly if it wasn't for the ending plot twist I think the game would sit better with me

No matter how you feel about it, the ending twist ruined the entire game and all replay value. Won't be buying the third.

I would've been fine with the twist if the game wasn't so fucking boring. Like 60% of the game takes place on the same foggy roads and the other 40% is in boring, featureless buildings. I didn't think it could get worse than Man of Medan but they sure proved me wrong.

How did they nail Until Dawn but fuck everything else?

Yeah I was planning to replay it because one character died in my playthrough but the ending made me stop caring for anybody in it.

There's clearly some sort of supernatural element, you could easily say that given how if any of the cast has enough negative traits in the final 10 minutes of the game that they're automatically "killed" off could be some stuff to do with purgatory. But I feel like the studio behind these games have a real hard time explaining what exactly the story is without if feeling ham-fisted at times.
Sure you could go around and of course if you want the full picture you need to find all the lore etc, but when you pull shit like the ending twist in Medan and Little Hope, it just makes the story feel so jarring

If you find all the secrets the story is easy to piece together.

The priest was trying to summon Satan by doing rituals Megan.

The rituals worked and you see the attic ladder move by itself and a demon hand next her in the intro.

While you can dismiss the entire events of the game as in his head, the supernatural does exist and it could possible be a form of purgatory and redemption for the spirits of his family.

Megan's ghost can appear at the end of the game and will still be there even after you kill yourself, meaning she wasn't in your head.

I think the canonical best ending is that you get all of the correct dialogue choices as the player, which means the characters are judged "correctly" upon death, as in, their qualities in life are reflected to the player and to the protagonist. It doesn't matter if their spirits or the hallucinations or whatever die as long as this happens. This is how he comes to terms with their deaths; by remembering the people they were rather than obsessing over their passing and his failing to save any of them.

But hey, that's just a theory.

I'll admit it could have been accomplished a lot better, even though I am adamant in a purgatory interpretation.
I liked Little Hope a lot, but I am honestly worried Ashley Tisdale's game is just going to be PTSD: The game and we will get another twist like man of medan except with PTSD instead of gas.
