Will it have nice reflections and PBR from light sources instead of shitty cubemaps from HL2 era? Even HDTF had use of more modern technology in the first levels.

Any gameplay changes or it's just graphics polishing?

From what I read, they will probably bake the static lightning and cubemaps at a higher resolution etc.. and it will just be patched into the original. So basically the same Valve did with HL2 years ago.

Fuck, now this game will be completely unplayable on my toaster.

You get this as free update right? cool even though I'm pretty jaded with black mesa. I think it's an upstanding model to update your game to bring in sales. Even though black mesa is technically outdated and they could never get it to a contemporary state, if they left it alone it would age that much faster.

I can see there's massive diminishing returns on work done and payback to the player though. Looking at these screenshots I can't really tell the difference.

The only change I've ever been interested in is if they completely redesigned the marine AI. I think they've been though big changes multiple times but the team doesn't seem to get it.

That's not ray tracing though. It's just a bunch of post processing effects like SSAO and SSR and it looks like shit. Especially the reflective surfaces.

HL2 is broken on many maps now, though. Completely fucked the way a lot of NPC vehicles were placed, causing them to clip and sometimes outright freeze in place.

HL1's maps, enemies and weapons etc. were built around goldsrc and putting them in source without rebalancing is an empty gesture
and Xen fucking SUCKED
Valve may be a shell of its former self, but I hope that with Alyx they've motivated themselves out of their pit

The game needs to be remastered again from scratch as it already looks like an outdated piece of shit and not too far from HL Source with graphic mods. The proper remaster needs to be done with Unreal Engine 5.

Xen was released so far after the main game was finished it sticks out by having a much higher quality compared to the base game. They're just going back over it to bring the worst suff up to spec with xen. Remember most of the BM sections are like 8-10 years old now.
