How would you make a Megaman-Sonic crossover vidya work?
Note that there aren't any limitations on how you theme it, it could be a fucking Megaman 8-bit-deathmatch tier game where all the shit is brought into one game, just how would you make it work specifically?
Also what music would you make that would surpass said vidya fangames like 8-bit deathmatch and Sonic Roboblast 2?

Well, both series have had kart racers, so it's not the most out there thing.
Sonic dies in the opening cutscene and the rest is a normal Mega Man game.
Sonic Boll tier game but with Mega Man instead of Mario
A musou game where characters focus on zipping around the field to create zones that deal damage based on how wide the area is, the smaller the more damage so your goal is to constantly wrap around large groups of enemies in efficient ways. Movement is momentum based with tons of control over the character ala Rocket League
You pick two characters at a time, a fast and a powerful one. The speed character affects your movement gameplay and the power character affects what happens when you complete a circle. So like Sonic zips around a group of enemies, and Tails in his mech launches a salvo of missiles into it. Tails could also be a speed character out of his mech and have more aerial capability.
Side scroller, two levels per 'world', with the same theme of each. If you play as Megaman, the level is a standard Megaman level, and the boss uses tactics Megaman can beat. If you play as Sonic, the level is a classic sonic level, and the boss uses tactics Sonic can beat.
Hey at least it doesn't have gay-ass Megaman X-trash in it then.
2D sidescroller, where you can play as Mega Man, Sonic, or their friends. Mega Man moves a bit faster then he does in his game and is a lot more agile, while Sonic is a bit slower then normal and can stop easier, so they can share levels. Equal parts momentum platforming and combat. Just copy Worlds Collide's story so you can have baddies from both series and cool fights against the Roboticized Masters and a grab bag of Wilyegg robo-abominations.
Throw in a Sunstar secret boss alongside other chad megaman/sonic bosses and it would be pure kino.
No offense but bad idea. The idea of having 'speed characters' balances the game entirely toward Sonic (Mega Man's only comparable characters are Quick Man, Turbo or Nitro Man, Overdrive Ostrich and Ride Boarski if you want Xshit), and a Musou game where you try to affect only small areas kinda runs counter to the core concept of taking out tons of enemies at once.

You're god damn right.
Your damage decreases as the area expands, that doesn't mean you do no damage for a wide circle but rather that you need to focus on doing wide loops for weak mobs and tight ones against the big guys. Visualizing this it could be extremely fun gameplay desu. You add environmental speedups and hazards, it makes it like an action obstacle course.
Also i don't think you need a ton of characters. The MM types can be changed to accommodate speed gameplay and they can each have their own gimmicks. Also the MM types will definitely have a monopoly over the power roles.

Pretty basic crossover game concept, I think, but that's not bad. It makes perfect sense to me.
Have the Mega Man story end with an battles against Metal Sonic and then Eggman, and have the Sonic story end with the Genesis Unit then Wily, and you've got yourself a deal.
The Robot masters based on existing characters works perfectly, given it comes from the archie crossover.
Distinct playstyles would benefit replayability as well, not to mention it'd make the final boss fun to fight, though I would also throw in:
>Secret bosses akin to MM8BDM which can only be accessed through skilled use of platforming/speed/ring zones
>Said Secret Bosses based on/inspired by some of the less remembered bits of both franchises (Mecha Sonic from S3&K, Sunstar from the GBA port of MM5, maybe a reference/meme character for shits and giggles)
For Plot? Just use the Archie comic but make it better:
Chaos Emeralds fuck shit up in reality and somehow merge the two worlds together, Eggman and Wily realize they're both fucking robot geniuses and combine their research together to fuck shit up, Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Megaman alongside Protoman go after the two dumbasses before they call in something worse than either of the parties can handle, insanity ensures.
Bass mode has you playing as Bass, once again wanting to prove he is the baddest, strongest mother fucker ever made, and goes on to fuck up both Wily and Eggman's armies and Robotmasters, Final Boss is instead a unique boss to Bass (either some Stardroid fuckery or something made by the two scientists to originally fight Sonic and Megaman), story happens alongside the main story.
Secret Boss for Bass Mode is actually Megaman and Sonic

MM8BDM World Collide expansion, but instead of Modern Sonic it's SRB2 Sonic.
It's actually possible. I think some people on the MM8BDM forums even floated that idea years back.
Modern is still okay if you remove the boost shit and focused purely on 3d physics and speed like in Adventure 1 or, as a better example, SRB2.
If it doesn't have a kino set of boss fights like 8BDM though, instant trash.
