What am I in for

monkeys and sake

You tell us buddy.

monke, and big monke

The early game kind of sucks.
Just get past the bull and the game improves massively.

a good time

Learn how to parry.
Dragonrot can be cured several times and pretty easily.
Every boss can be cheesed if you get stuck.

Not really, after like 15 minutes you have access to Hirata Estate, one of the best areas in the game. If you gitgud you can beat the Lady Butterfly and have fun with your extra attack boost.

inner genichiro is impossible bros....

No he's not user. What are you having trouble with?

solid beginning, boring middle and end

Sakura dance is actually his weak point. He abuses it constantly so if you learn that parrying timing it becomes free hits. Learn that timing, ichi twice while he is recovering, repeat. Oh and I gave up trying to reverse his lightning reverse. I just dodged it. You can reverse it of course, but I found the timing more difficult than I was willing to work with.

Too much health and his posture bar takes too long to fill up now

>tfw I got so mad I almost threw my controller out of the window and haven't played since
>inb4 git gud
shut the fuck up, I know

Not really, he's so aggressive that you can parry him don't keep breaking relatively quickly. You just have to push the attack and continue parrying his attacks.

The way enemies are placed is obnoxious (especially when paired with mini-bosses), your tools are super limited, your skills are super limited, the world design is linear outside of the optional Hirata Estate which suffers from the same problems, Chained Ogre's grabs are bullshit, and Blazing Bull is easily the worst boss in the entire game because of the forced chip damage + bad telegraphing + non-existent cooldown on attacks.

t. just beat Father Owl on NG/charmless/demon bell

The criticisms I had on my first vanilla playthrough still apply to my second higher difficulty playthrough a year later. Game is great but it's riddled with flaws, the definition of a flawed gem (which is typical of a Fromsoft game). The disparity in quality between Chained Ogre/Blazing Bull and Genichiro/Guardian Ape/etc is GIGANTIC.

Fromsoft's best game since 2012.

That was basically my feelings for the original dark souls. I actually returned the game. But then I picked it back up later and tried again and I beat it and now it's one of my favorites. I think from soft games often have a lot of people balance off of them their first try. There's a sort of mindset you have to get into, a way to examine the situations that, once it sticks, can be applied to any of their action RPGs

Go aggressive user. Spam R1 and L1s to no ends.

What did you get mad at?

I already beat every Dark Souls and Bloodborne. Sekiro makes my blood boil like no other game. Idk if I can go back to it.

>Oh and I gave up trying to reverse his lightning reverse. I just dodged it. You can reverse it of course, but I found the timing more difficult than I was willing to work with.
Why is it so easy in Isshin to reverse lightning tho?

I never had that much trouble with blazing bull. Sure he's no fun, but you can just run around behind him and slap him in the ass. Combine it with firecrackers and he's pretty damn easy. Chained ogre just has the problem that his grab attacks are either too fast or home too much.. if you could have dodged around beside them they would have been a lot more reasonable, but he will turn 90° in midjump like the gravity defying bastard he is

>Hirata Estate, one of the best areas in the game
it was fucking trash.

I'm pretty sure it was that big Demon of Anger or something. I don't remember.

Horsieman is so much easier than Butterfly there is no reason to do her first.

Don't know. I think it's just the fact that genichiro keep spinning around and hanging up in the air for a lot longer than I think he will after you do the first lightning reversal back into him. I have a hard time timing when he's going to actually reverse it back.

i also recently downloaded this and will play it soon on ps4. any tips on if/how i should change the control scheme? i heard default isn't very optimal

try be more agressive user, stay on his face, parry his attacks and put some attacks in between moves

Demon of hatred really is just a dark souls boss. Forget all of that parrying nonsense, just dodge and slap him in the taint

meant for

I never had any issue with the default? What did people complain about?

You can cheese phase 3 with staggered r1's. He'll constantly try to pull his bow out but you can hit him out of it with another r1. It's an infinite loop.

It's not quite perfect, he can get out of it sometimes, but yeah it does stagger the shit out of him

i saw a yt video where someone switched sprint and jump to triggers, and i was wondering if that actually improves gameplay. the rest was unimportant stuff like switching heals to a face button and other stuff that i definitely will end up doing anyways since i just came from bloodborne

Try it again! You might do better since you're not as pissed after having a long break with it.

That's pretty reasonable. You may want to jump while running more than once and it's not optimal when both of them are face buttons.
