Pillars of eternity sold badly because the gameplay was fucking awful, not the setting.

>Why is Obsidian making a Skyrim clone
Because they have Bethesda on the brain, and they think they can complete with, and Outer Worlds proved that they can't.

It was the writing that did them in

Obsidian cannot make an original game to save their fucking lives

Ekera, just so postenago per complanca ac madiccho gellarde bazzo di verus!

I am sorry but the gameplay is far worse even for a CRPG

Imagine if given Beth and Ob are owned by Microsoft.... they just fucking dissolve ES6/Starfield and move everyone to Obsidian. Just imagine the hilarity. Elder Scrolls destruction. Fallout destroyed. Do it Microsoft.

>and Outer Worlds proved that they can't.
New Vegas proved they can't

maybe this time they'll realize an ending where you can't actually effect anything and makes your entire quest pointless is a terrible idea.

Because they correctly perceive that Bethesda is simply the least shitty FPRPG dev but not very good. The issue is that Obsidian fails to perceive that their efforts need to be greater to create a product superior to Bethesda's, and that they are fighting the combined 30 year heritage and atmosphere of Michael Kirkbride's universe, which pulls as many repeat fans in as anything else.

Why does Microsoft have them making a poor mans Skyrim clone when they bought the real thing?

Never ever, Obsidiot. Obshitstain is far more likely to be closed considering they make shit games that don't sell while Bethseda makes medicore games that sell extremely well.

why have one skyrim when you can have two skyrim's.

Yeah, why?

>Competing with your fellow Microsoft studio who also owns Skyrim

this game is dead

Probably because there's going to be like 15 year gap between each TES intallment now, so it's better to have another studio releasing fantasy RPG from time to time as well. How hard is it to understand, holy shit.

The Forgotten Sanctum DLC should have had the balls to let Wael fuck Eothas up before he could destroy the wheel.

people like fantasy RPG's.

The 15 year gap meme is going to change now that MS owns Bethesda.
Todd wont be around forever (or even after Starfield if you ask me) and MS wants their billions back

There's mainline Fallout, Fallout 76 (perhaps future MP titles as well), TES and either Starfield (assuming it's going to become a series) or another new IP/standalone title. BGS is only 400 people, MS money won't suddenly make them churn out games twice as fast. 3-4 years between each game is here to stay, which means it's going to be a long time between each TES installment.

If it doesn't have an in-depth modding toolset then it won't sell even a fraction of Skyrim's numbers, not even counting SE and ports

Non-modded Bethesda playthroughs are literally just to get a grip of the story/factions so you know how they play out and how to roleplay with mods later on. I can't even imagine how people can enjoy playing, say, unmodded Skyrim for hundreds of hours.

Bethesda is going to get the Bethesda treatment before you know it.
New hires, new direction, new studio branches and a regular schedule of AAA games. The MMO games failed to get massive appeal and they cant make the IP profitable.
If you think MS wont change things you are very naive

>The MMO games failed
No they haven't user

>skyrim clone
you wish

it's going to be a boring linear first person slasher, think dark messiah but worse in every single way but with cool graphix and probably ray tracing

Can they top themselves again and make even worse companions than The Outer Worlds?

They did so well that Bethesda owners grabbed the money and ran

>The MMO games failed to get massive appeal and they cant make the IP profitable.
Dude, there are so many expansions and DLC coming to TESO and they all cost quite a bit. TESO is very popular and definitely profitable.
>New hires, new direction, new studio branches and a regular schedule of AAA games.
If MS didn't fire Obsidian management immediately after acquisition, then they sure as hell aren't going to make any big changes at Bethesda. There's no need to shake things up at BGS in any major way because they make games that are generally positively received and sell a lot. Obsidian is much more likely to get shafted since their output is bad lately and doesn't sell well.

wut?

I like the way you think...

it's the highest rated fallout game on steam

1. They wanted to sell for quite some time already.
2. It was Square Enix-like situation where even though the games turned profit, their expectations were out of this world and thus they failed in their eyes.

New Vegas was amazing considering it was made in a year and half. TOW on the other hand is irredeemable piece of shit.

PoE2 in turn-based mode is very cool.
