Why aren't games fun anymore?

Why aren't games fun anymore?

How do hundreds of millions of people get up every day and play CSGO, overwatch, Destiny, fortnite, lol, dota, or among us?

Their dopamine levels haven't been depleted

Unironically explore another hobby and video games will either become refreshing again or you quit video games. Taking a break from games helps you enjoy it more.

depression

lol my dad would never say more than 25 running words at a time.

games did not improve as far as fun goes, quite the opposite. Instead, game devs have perfected the art of making their games as addicting as possible.

You get older and the demographic changes with time. The games you like aren't in style right now. There's still games to play, though, and this is coming from a boomer that usually plays Doom megawads and Roguelikes. You just gotta look for them a little harder.

developers stopped trying

I play different games, and older games. They haven't stopped being good. You just need to either turn your eye away from the zoomer shit or embrace it.

>Wow, son, you sound like a massive faggot

This. I never played bingwahoo funny man growing up. In my mid 20s am enjoying emulating bing wahoo man

This thread makes me miss my dad.

This is what I did. But my taste in games also changed a lot after this. I can't tolerate even minor bullshit in a lot of modern games anymore, like I just can't have fun with games that have cash shops. I suppose I always found those games less fun but giving them up for a while made it easier for me to not get sucked into them and I'll drop anything I don't like much more quickly now.

I love playing games.
Stop playing games 24/7, stop being a fucking sadsack, do something else. Doesn't have to be work, doesn't have to be reading or music or movies, just literally anything else besides sitting on Zig Forums, or playing vidya.
Variety will make you more invested in playing games when you spend less time. You'll want to capitalize on the time you do spend even more.

I actually moved my computer into his old computer area, since the basement is a lot cooler in the summer and overall quieter.

He and I used to play an old game called Subspace down here, it was the only thing he ever played.

He died in a car crash in 2017.

At least he went out quick, I hope

>the park

what?

sorry to hear that man

I'm becoming the same way. recently played astral chain, and it's good, but it does so much shit other games do (forced stealth sequences, ugly costumes/accessories, etc.) that every time a game does these things I hate it more and more and it makes me less inclined to pick up a game if it does it. I merely tolerated these things in the past, but I'm getting sick of how many games remain stagnant. it's more a problem with developers and less with me. it's as if many devs are dead inside and just mindlessly going through the motions and not even having enthusiasm for what they produce.

Learn to draw/paint or some shit.

Sorry, user

>vidya starts to get boring after 3-4 months
>activate one month of netflix
>watch some shit
>vidya is fun again after a week or two

Innovation certainly feels like it stagnated at some point. I think there was just so much money to be made that innovation was no longer as necessary and you could keep recreating the same things and still turn a profit. Seemed to make people try and insert a ton of extra fluff to keep people interested, but that can't last forever. I'm basically hoping at this point that VR will continue to keep improving to the point where more people are excited about it because I don't see any way to really innovate on traditional hardware as much anymore. From 4th to 6th gen there were massive leaps in gameplay but after that things mostly felt the same.

Indie games and smaller titles are still fun.
I loved Undertale, Inside, Return of the Obra Dinn, Hollow Knight, Journey, Brothers:AToTS.
Plenty of good stuff to be found that doesn't stick to tradition for the sake of guaranteed sales.

Anyone got the other edit of this?

this you can't expect to be happy when you do one thing it might be fun at first but eventually it will deplete you

> you

imagine thinking going to the park is just as bad as being addicted to social media
