father is the king that gets ambushed and killed when the guy in OP (Dimitri) was still a kid, lives with his stepmom which also has a daughter and falls in love with her, grows up and joins the academy and so does the other girl which is by the way the daughter of the emperor of the neighboring faction, in the meantime Dimitri encounters an individual that apparently was responsible for his father's death along with others. He swears to seek justice and confronts the guy only to find out that it's the emperor's daughter that is seeking to reform all 3 countries under one flag. He goes mad and at the start of the war he gets captured and tortured for 5 years when he escapes.
he becomes mad and kills everything and everyone until he witnesses the death of a friend and swears to become a better person or something

Sort of hard when a bitch who everyone was friends with declares war out of nowhere and suddenly blitzkriegs the whole map.

Black guy (I assume you mean Claude) is just kinda there. He literally has next to no impact on the plot.

Black guy is foreign exchange student who is there to fuck bitches, make money, and fight the actual bad guy.
Red girl was abused as a child, convinced that she was abused because special hereditary power that some people have, then decided to side with her abusers to start a war to make everyone equal despite the country being at peace for several generations and only ever being threatened by her abusers. It turns out it was mostly because she was 'lonely' and wanted to fuck her teacher.

black guy (Claude) is the prince of Almyra, a neighboring country of wyvern riders and nomads. his uncle is the ruler of the alliance which is the other country inside Fodlan, that's all.
edgy red girl (Edelgard) is the daughter of the emperor and future empress, she got into some shady shit, thanks to her mother, involving a cult that lives underground and that despises the goddess. result is that she was treated as a guinea pig for experiments along with her siblings which died one after the other. the only one who survived are her (and another character) and as a result she bears two crests inside her. she wants to remove the presence of the church because she sees it as corrupted and that they're the cause of her suffering
