INFINITE RAYTRACING

>Thought this was a portal webm
>It kinda was

That looks so bad

It's interesting how you can easily count the number of reflections they are modeling here.

Not sure if bait. Will wait to see how the zoomers react before deciding.

whats the benefit from raytracing other than more accurate reflections from extremely reflective things and also more accurate shadows? it feels like the only improvement is how lit the room is and what the materials reflect, but you could cheat these effects before right? also installing enb-s just make it look similar and less demanding and you can fake surface reflections with less demanding techniques as well and you might never notice the difference. idk seems like diminishing rewards after a while

It's a meme technology to sell meme video cards. When it becomes harder to increase performance at an acceptable price they need new gimmicks to increase sales.

Something you retards need to understand is that this stuff has been around for decades and the ramifications of it being realistic for real-time rendering have already been worked out and are enormous.
I get why you might not be knowledgeable about this stuff, but it's like your mother saying
>what do you need with a new playstation, you've already got one!
and it gets grating answering the same basic-bitch questions over and over.

How is it bait?

Raytracing with simple geometry is pure soul

this

im talking about it used in vydia to make games look more realistic and sweeter and with greater detail while being somewhat playable and affordable by optimizing them with clever tricks. yes, i want my game to look like cutscenes or a pixar movie but i dont want to play it on 20 fps when sometimes it doesnt even help the vydia scene in any significant way

>CD
jesus that is so 90s that it hurts
i miss spinning objects that floated last game i remember even doing this was minecraft

Ray Tracing in Doom 1 youtube.com/watch?v=0xl5EcvsuaM

christ that looks like shit

>10fps in a game from 90s
B-BUT THE FLOOR IS WET LOOK AT THE GRAPHICS

its hilarious how in the 90th devs thought some alien space race would use cds

>INFINITE
i can clearly see an end of it

>90th

Quake 2 doesnt feel the same way with this whole RTX thing.

Why did they have to pick this trash instead of Unreal Gold?

>quake 2
>trash
Shut your mouth or ill blast your teeth in.

I thought this was going to be a meme about how old games had mirrors on perfectly flat surfaces in small rooms but then I realized this is actually meant to demonstrate raytracing.

How do they stop the computer from rendering an infinite numbers of reflections and using up all the CPU cycles?

Why the fuck do people pretend ReShade raytracing has anything to do with Nvidia? It's just a screenspace effect.

Seethe more quakenigger

by programming in light ray lifetime.

You need a new playstation to run some of the the latest games. You don't need a brand new graphics card to play control or legion.

So just hold on and let people develop the technology until it can run games at high frame rates instead of doomsaying and discouraging people from supporting it.

Man what the fuck this took me a minute to recognize as Quake 2. Why is the plasma rifle so SHINY on the tip? It looks so wrong but also cool as fuck.
Why is this making me nostalgic, its an entirely new look for the game?
It feels like the old days when devs first discovered reflections and cubemaps and just chromed the shit out of everything in demos but the geometry was still really uncanny basic and cartoony. Shit like 3Dmark, furmark, etc.

What a strange feeling to be feeling right now.

you mean hyperblaster? because it's a raytracing tech demo

You're right that's the name I got it mixed up with the quake 3 one. All I remember is it fired some fucking sick ass green bolts that lit up the hallway as they travelled if you ran it in opengl

>its all he can do: parrot buzzwords and memes
Get a grip on life mate.

Faking it with baked cubemaps, lightmaps, SSR, etc. etc. means you have to do a heap of extra work to first make an engine capable of baking them, then writing shaders that try to smoothly blend all these fake things in a way that doesn't look total shit.
If you can just do the RT in realtime you don't need to do any of that work and in theory this will lead to better games because less time is being spent fiddling with fakery.
As a mild example, how many games have you played where the reflections in windows show you an older version of the map? Someone changed the geometry or the textures, but the workflow to rebake the cubemaps was too hard and too slow so they just skipped it. The guy doing the level geometry often has to sit and manually tweak the way walls contact the ground to stop shadow aliasing artefacts. It's all time consuming and annoying and it makes people reluctant to change shit once it works even if they could do it better.
