Amnesia Rebirth

Original Amnesia is a huge hit. Makes some let's players rich.
Rebirth is so bad that no one cares about it.

It's not that Rebirth were a shit game, it's because the reason that the vast majority of people even cared about Dark Descent was because of le funny streamers. They want that experience again, but don't realize that the charade has long been played out and going through the same motions won't create the same feeling for them, so they falsely attribute their own jadedness as a gauge of the game quality. Fucking normies. I was a Frictional Games fan since the tech-demo for Penumra.

The devs probably hate Amnesia The dark descent. There is no other explaination to why they have done those herendous sequels, tarnishing the name of the first game.

That might be part of it, but I genuinely think its of much lower quality. Even if you go back and play the 10-year-old game today, its much better.
There are so many issues with rebirth, like enemies despawning after one fail, no health or sanity meters so you're always returned to neutral after an encounter = hardly any stakes.
Those grab animations that clearly show you the monster in your face, ruining all the intrigue you might have had about their design. It's just ass.

ive only died once as i was in a vent thing and i didnt even know what called me, she freaks out, and i had no idea if it was intentional or not but the enemy was gone
i seriously hoped i had just made a mistake and they didnt genuinely despawn enemies after death, but if they do thats so retarded

I much prefer rebirths walking sim style to the TDS style where monsters stop being scary, and just becomes annoying things that are in the way of progressing.

That's why they make it very hard to look at them.

Also when you realize you can goomba stomp the water monster if you have enough HP.

I still think TDD handled it much better. How much you actually looked at the monster was largly determined by the players choice and how much they want to buy into the sanity mechanic.
Rebirth just shoves it in your face, whether you want to or not. If you really found the monsters in TDD annoying then I can see why you preferred Rebirths way of handling them. But me and many others liked them and are pretty disappointed with Rebirth.

TDD is probably the horror game making the most active efforts to avoid showing you the monsters directly too much.

Yeah its pretty stupid. My guess is that they don't want to frustrate the player by having them repeat sections over and over.
Its like baby's first horror game. Do you remember the maze?
If you died in there then it teleports you to the end and the entire thing (which I think was the best part of Rebirth) is skipped.

It's especially funny with the games "death" mechanic. After the grab they just drop you down without killing you, which makes them look even more like a joke.
It's like the game is just one big haunted house from an amusement park.

I'm not even saying Rebirth is great, but I think it's far from bad.

Original Amnesia was back when "can't defend yourself from the monsters, just run and hide" was a novel concept, now every other fucking horror game uses this mechanic.

I've never in my life watched any let's plays.
Rebirth is straight up worse than TDD in basically every way though. Worse story with retarded MC who won't shut the fuck up, QTE enemies, flashing png jumpscares, less interesting locations, the rollercoaste-type pacing. Even puzzles are somehow worse because they're artifically forced into the game as opposed to tdd, where they made sense in-universe.
I don't know if it's a bad game, as I'm not really a horror-game person, but it's certainly worse than tdd or soma.

Honestly having sat on it a while all I can conclude is that Rebirth is a game for women. I just cannot project into it and it annoys me intensely, but all the girls I've spoken to thoroughly enjoyed it.

I disagree, I've wanted frictional to build upon the foundations of the dark descent for the longest time and instead I get this boring horror game with a main character that refuses to shut up. I want more horror but frictional is fixated on delivering a game that has a uninterrupted story.

In a sad way, frictional has become the Chinese room lite, I no longer care for their games anymore

Amnesia predated mainstream streamers you zoomer, LPs weren't even popular at that stage.
Pewdiepie's infamous videos of the game was 2 years after it was released.

Thomas Grip explained it in interviews. He is a legit brainlet pseudo intellectual who hates horror and only wants to tell stories and believes horror should be stripped from games to leave only philosophical concepts to make players think.
He was upset that people didn't get the ''deep'' story of Amnesia and didn't realize such brilliant insights as ''there is no such thing as evil, every villain has their motivation and it's all based on perspective.''
Every game they have made since has been made to spite youtubers who live rent free in Thomas Grip's head.

Amnesia Rebirth makes sense when you consider that it's made so that youtubers do not miss the story and get forced to think about ''deep'' philosophy.
