>reintroduce job system
>actively discourage job switching by having your character level be your job level
Reintroduce job system
Wait a minute, that gal..
>reintroduce job system
>does nothing and the game plays exactly the same regardless
Nice "RPG" franchises you got there, Square
This is still the best dragon quest game btw
Toriyama is my fav
>actively discourage job switching by having your character level be your job level
I was fine with this desu seeing as you still retained your skills and stat boosts from other jobs
I like IX but c'mon man, not even close
except advanced classes have better stats so its balanced
Didnt mind, some shit carries over to your character. Worse part was having to go to that church to change classes everytime instead any time in the menu
Your companions are literally, and I mean literally literally, soulless.
I have yet to play but isn't that the case as well in DQ 3? The major difference I see between 9 and 3 is that 3's companions have set characters designs while 9's are randomized and I assume it makes 3's companions more memorable
I really hated 8 and 9's skill "tree" (read: skill line) system, glad that's gone.
9's aren't randomized, they give you 3 or 4 randomized premade guys but you can just make new characters. These are made using the character creator just like the protag. Full agency on their names and appearances.
IX is designed around the endless post-game grinding. Of course the job system is pointless for the main story.
>Actively discourage job switching by having your character level be your job level
>He doesn't exploit the class system to get more skills and stat bonuses
DQ3
>Choose Name, Starting Class and Gender
>You get five seeds that alter their stats and personalities (personalities affect level-ups)
DQ9
>Choose Name, Starting Class and Appearance
I wish more games had party customization with that many clothing options. My only problem is how much they lack personality
dang those are pretty neat features for DQ 3
9 has a lot of small oddities that to me, made me feel disconnected from it.
>you and your three party members are pretty much the only constantly 3d characters
>having a full team makes most dungeons drop to sub-20 fps
>most everyone else is 2d sprites save for a select few plot-releveant characters
>jarring moments where 3d NPCs become 2d when their character arc is over
It all feels so fake
Man I remember my team. My Paladin, male thief with claws, female monk with stick and a female sorceress.
Was a great game.
Not gonna lie, getting the right personalities on your party is kind of a mess.
I mean, it also encourages you to because gained skill points carry over. Switch to a class, get some points, switch back, and boom.
it's been a long time since I last played DQ 9 but I see what you mean. I always tried to play the game with a friend. Definitely was more fun
Really? Even so I still think it's a neat idea
>visiting every guest character for their outfits
Felt like hours
The SNES and GBC versions have a prologue quiz where you can alter the MC's personality as well.
>Entire party is literally non-characters in an RPG
ehhhhhhhhh. Even if DQ games usually have paper thin characters, at least they are usually entertaining. These ones are nothing.
>discourage
I'm not so sure, OP
>everything except Spells and some armors carry over
>all skills carry over and can be used by any class
>all passives carry over
>even weapons and shields you just need 100 points, you're gonna do this anyway to unlock their ultimate skills
>Skill points are front loaded, it's easier to level up a whole new class to 15 or 20 in half an hour than grind for higher levels in your current one
>Advance classes have outright better stats
>you can completely catch up in an hour at any point just by farming various tiers of metal slimes
>can only unlock armentalist effectively with job switching, doing it with a straight mage is cancer
>job switching is important for endgame character building
>went so far as to give sage the ability to change everyone's class on the fly
sounds like they were encouraging it to me
So are they going to announce a Switch remake for DQs 35th anniversary?
it's not it means you need to reroll like hunting for a pokemon with certain nature while in 9 you just build what you want.
I'd rather they do it of 3.
user we have like 3 or 4 of those already
Stop being a casual who has to follow a guide and min max everything.
Yeah but I want it in the DQXI engine.
I mean either you min max it or it was a pointless feature you will never notice
DQ9 ported to console with DQ11 graphics would be insanely based
Or just DQ12 with the customization of 9.
No it means some characters are going to end up being better at magic and others might level up faster. It was a way to make generated party members feel unique. The game's difficulty was not designed around the player understanding the details of the system in depth. Min maxing just makes you a faggot.
Try DQX.
>might be better at magic or might level up faster
which you would probably never noticed unless you already looked at a guide
dq9's class system boils down to finding a grotto with KMS, learning hatchet man/lighting spear on everyone then grinding to grabbing every class specific skill, THEN switching over to whatever class you actually want to be
it's mindless
IIRC they ported DQ9 to iOS with all the online functionality.
It's subtle but you notice it. I would know as I originally played it without a guide.
That's just because it's designed to have the cadence of an mmo, but without the actual online part. You can even party with other players locally
>one hit miss moves
I'm more of a "uber falcon sword and metal slash" kinda guy
also a full party of falcon swords comboing is already the biggest damage meta so you should already have some at that point.
