Shmups are nothing but memory games

Shmups are nothing but memory games.
Change my mind.

Dancing is nothing but a memory game
Playing an instrument is nothing but a memory game.

subtle changes and randomness in pattern require you to improvise

"memory game" implies that there's no execution involved, which is wrong

I made it to the TLB's 2nd phase in Crimzon Clover's new Arrange Unlimited mode on my 3rd attempt. Raw skills can take you far.

It doesn't imply that at all.
Memory ............................| Execution
As you play the game more it ends up closer to Memory ..|.......................... Execution
Because you know what's coming so you have more time to prepare.

Removing the execution aspect.
The exact same happens for most things like Timecrisis and other lightgun games.
Shmups are just hit harder than most.

okay I memorized Flash and Stripe is just doing unfocused movement through a tiny space. I'll time it out 100% of the time without practice now.

Muscle memory too shitposter~kun

Yer a retard arry

Play based doujins like Hellsinker and AkashicVerse instead of soulless crap like Cave

No arguement eh? Just insult?
Guess that makes me the winner.

To Gryffindor with the Weasleys for you.

>Be put in situation
>have to remember correct option or which options to answer accordingly
What genre isn't a memory game?

>user complains about STGs being memory games
>guarantee he would also complain about Greg being too "random"

Most fps.
Sure you can memorise the map but that's about it.

pvp games.
no pve game is truly random, with enough time one can eventually recognize the initially seemingly random patterns programmed into it

Since it also requires accurate executions they are more than just memory games.

There you go, hopefully that changes your mind.

Not really, you can remember the upcoming sections and setups and plan your moves ahead of time.
Most of it is muscle memory anyway.

>he needs to remember patterns
>he can't adapt to them on the fly
lol

What about
>common strats
>common round rollouts
>common player habits
>common matchups
The OP is vague enough to be nitpicky

Cuphead is nothing but a memory game

True that.

What shmups are you guys playing lately?
I want to 1cc muchi muchi pork next

I haven't found "the one" to really git gud at yet. I was playing Dariusburst but it annoyed me

video games are children's toys

What is this meme

Route construction and optimization obviously requires memorization in order to execute the general plan, but the core gameplay of "don't get hit by these randomized dots" is full of unpredictability. Basically . Everyone on Zig Forums is garbage at STGs so the memorization part doesn't even apply to them yet.

FPS games are just "click on head" minigames

>Merry christmas little timmy!

>just memorize combos bro!

>chaser bullets

disproved

Such a stupid opinion can only come from a complete retard who will ignore any counter argument so it's just a waste of time

There is no arguement if you are just hurling insults.

I've felt the same way, just try stuff out until you find one that makes you want to come back over and over.

this is the biggest cope of them all. any game when played for score is a memory game. any time you have retried something in a video game you are now relying on memory. a skilled player will be able to pick up a new game and get to second loop with little difficulty. a scrub will feed and complain about 'memorization'. these are the exact same people who complained the undead parish was 'memorization'
people who cannot into stg are literal brainlets. all you have to do is not get hit and shoot.

raiden iv and espgaluda. i'll probably pick up deathsmiles again too when the port drops
>muchi muchi pork
kino is there an emulator that runs it well yet?
also suicide bullets

this gem right here
I can't believe this shit exists

I don't mind it as long as they have a way so that it switches it up a bit and you couldn't record winning inputs and just replay them to get a top score every time
or at least if theres multiple ways to dodge a pattern

>Muchi, apart from the slight 5 seconds loading at the begining of each levels, which reduces the speed of the game slightly, can be set to play very very close to pcb, with its linear slowdown like Ibara and Pink.

>Shmups are nothing but memory games
If they're truly memory games, then you should be able to 1cc them blindfolded--the same way people speedrun games blindfolded on AGDQ.

They definitely aren't very engaging. Once you've memorized what to do you can play most of them on autopilot mode. There needs to be more factors that keep you paying attention to the screen.

Bullet Hells are for literal autistic retards, which is also why it has so much fucking furry anime aesthetics. Normal horizontal/vertical shumps are based though.

100% of STGs meet that criteria.

That's what scoring systems are for.

there's freestyle dance and freeform jazz, but you cannot tackle danmaku curtains without knowing the pattern beforehand.
