Apart from the Subspace Emissary and some choice base roster additions, this was a pretty rubbish Smash game. Still better than 4.

Amazing game

this game was so fun. would be even better without tripping tho.

I didn't even care who got it for this one. All the other content was so fun and refreshing, now we have billions of characters with little content in Ultimate.

Zoomers had the best Smashes. Melee and Brawl were kino.

zoomers played melee?

Sure. Just look at Sonicfox.

Brawl's insecure, darker and grittier color palette is the opposite of soul, as is running down plain hallways in Subspace Emissary and fighting uninspired monster designs that no one wanted. No, give me Melee's adventure mode instead.

"Soul" doesn't mean "I like it". This is a common mistake people make, like when they call Undertale soulless even though it's easily one of the most soulful games of the 2010s.
"Soul" refers to a certain feeling the game evokes.

>Sakaki won't even port Melee's adventure mode to Ultimate

Read the first sentence of my post again, fool

terrible game. puts me right to sleep.

Ultimate > Melee > 64 > Brawl > 4
Objective

I was rewatching subspace cutscenes recently, and yes they are very soulful.
The inclusion of tripping is a soulful thing, but an example of soul gone wrong.

ultimate / melee > smash 4 > brawl

who ya pickin' Zig Forums?

Brawl was so soulless and boring, how can anyone like it at all?

playing it as a kid was the only way to ever like the game

I can respect that. Melee had the best update of content overall. Smash 4 just felt slightly off to me in a lot of little ways that add up, and a lot of the newcomers were just shitty advertisements.

Based OP, had the best story mode in a Smash game

SSE's cutscenes. You'll never see anything like it again, both because Sakurai is legitimately fucking insane and swore to never do another one because the cutscenes were put on Youtube, and because the roster and all future incarnations will be too large for any meaningful interactions and focus on anyone.

I've been hoping for this in every game since. Those were a blast to try for the Giga Bowser fight with each character.
I love Subspace, but THIS was peak Soul

>fun
>endlessly replayable
>explores Nintendo settings instead of generic hallways
I'd kill for this and/or Smash Run to be ported to Ultimate. I want to do this with King K. Rool so badly.

>subspace emissary
>best part of the game is the part where you're watching and not playing

And it's still shit because none of the characters are actually themselves in any meaningful way. You could replace everyone with OCs and nothing would change.
On top of that, nobody accomplishes anything except for Kirby characters (I wonder why) and Sonic to a lesser extent.
And a smaller thing, but Porky doesn't even show up properly outside of gameplay in spite of being a major villain in two Earthbound games. Not even in cutscenes before or after relevant sequences.

Most of the characters are themselves. Sakurai undeniably glanced over a few of them, like Olimar, but the cast was pretty damn large, even back then. The Kirby characters (I also wonder why) and the bad guys in particular really shine (it's amazing how well Sakurai understands how Bowser should act considering his actual moveset just makes him a generic kaiju)

lads,,,

Japan time:soul
SSBB: soulless

it's the least playable smash game and the definition of bad game design. Instead of focusing on making the game good, you have a butt hurt developer making contrived game designs to stop people from playing a way that doesn't affect anybody. Basically DRM

Japan time is the reason the Smash fanbase is so entitled, delusional, and generally insufferable today. They should have foreseen that having people wake up every weekday in the hopes of today being the day their most wanted gets in, only for that day to never come, would lead to minor brain damage in online types.

I said meaningful way. It's just the most noticeable in how they contribute to the plot. At no pont do any of their abilities or personalities come into play.
Even then, they generally are just...there, doing stuff. A part of it is because a good chunk of the cast consists of silent protags that don't have much of a personality, but the number of characters who express anything more distinguishable with any sort of consistency is very low (Lucas is the most distinct character and he even goes through ultimately meaningless character development, unlike everyone else)

>At no point do any of their abilities or personalities come into play.
Pikachu is used as a generator, Falcon summons the Blue Falcon, Peach stops a conflict with tea time, etc.
Man, come on

The only thing Brawl is good for is mods. No other game in the series has been modded to the same extent and it probably never will. Base game is just shit in several ways and it's unplayable once you have a taste of mods.

Ultimate is a massive disappointment in terms of gameplay
-too much input lag
-unintuitive buffer system
-c-stick functions as a macro

Considering it was a cast of mimes it was pretty good. Dialogue would have solved all of this, though.

it had soul but the gameplay itself is worse then melee 4 and wii u

>dude what if I posted a shitty game and pretended to like it XD

Pikachu is used as a generator, but his disappearance has no effect on anything. You don't even get a generic blackout level gimmick
Peach wasn't necessary for stopping the conflict. Anyone else telling them to cut it out would work just as easily given how quickly they drop it.
I'll give you Blue Falcon.

Ganondorf committed genocide. Tell ROB that had no effect on anything.

>button masher for little babies
Get over it, kids. Your game was made for young children and there is no real strategy or good gameplay to it. Never has been, never will.

pikachu and peech are just fun ways to advance the story. By your logic Sonic should have saved the world by himself without any other character present because Sonic never asks for help

>ROB survived genocide
>one of his projectiles is a dreidel

It didn't. ROB's A-OK afterwards. Hell, he stops being relevant immediately afterwards like literally everyone else except for Kirby, Dedede and Sonic.
There should have been consequences to releasing Pikachu. It's only logical given his predicament prior to Samus' appearance.
Sonic shouldn't have been shoved into the very end of the game like that.
You can't mash buttons in Smash. It's one of the few games where you can't because of knockback and no linking.

>By your logic Sonic should have saved the world by himself without any other character present
He effectively did. Tabuu would have been untouchable if Sonic hadn't intervened.
