I think the remake did a really good job of keeping the original feel and atmosphere of the game, but the original will always be the original.
Personally I've only played the remake, it easily became one of my favourite games of all time.

Realized how contradictory that sounded and was kinda waiting for this response, I meant it looks very visually similar. I've seen lots of gameplay and screenshots of the original, and the remake seems to get the original look down pretty well. I will agree though, wanders new face looks shitty.

Bluepoint’s remakes are almost like a reverse Midas’ touch in that everything they remake turns to fucking shit.

Both. Original for its atmosphere and aesthetic, which are integral to the experience, remake to experience the game with a higher level of detail and a reason to more thoroughly explore the world. PS3 remaster is unfortunately not a good middle-ground because they fucked up the physics, which makes the normal game slightly more annoying than usual and the time trials nearly impossible. There's definitely something lost in translation between the original and the remake which makes the original worth playing, but all things considered the remake isn't terrible. I appreciate its existence solely because it introduced the game to tons of people who otherwise probably would have never played it and possibly never even heard of it. By doing that it justifies its own existence, even if it misses the mark on some of the original's finer details.

i've played the originals and the PS3 remasters. the remasters remove the haziness of the games that made it so special. that's just one of the things, but it's a main one for me. i'm sure it plays fine, but i didn't even want to touch the PS4 version of SotC

Honestly I can't really say one is better than the other. They're both great games with great atmosphere but are going for such different things it's honestly apples to oranges.
