Is it just me or is RDR2 the only game from this gen that actually felt "next-gen"...

Is it just me or is RDR2 the only game from this gen that actually felt "next-gen"? Everything else felt like the same shit from gen 7.

I agree with this statement
I think battlefront 2 might also be but I only started playing that last month.

games havent evolved since the 360/ps3 generation

I have the same feeling. I really don't know how they did it. The light of the moon at night is something I didn't see in any game ever.

I think this gen we got something like an evolution of the 360/ps3 era, graphically. The new gen looks like it maybe is something else tho (not talking about RDR2).

tlou2 felt next gen

>I really don't know how they did it. The light of the moon at night is something I didn't see in any game ever.
That stuff is mainly down to this guy

who?

youc an tell this guy knows how to masturbate

RDR2 and AC Odyssey gave me fucking wanderlust, so there's that.

I know what you mean.

Completely agree. Everything about RDR2 game design, world design and narrative design screams next gen.

Provided that the games keep getting worse with each gen, of course.

yup
and it seems we have to wait for GTA6 have another peek

Aaron Garbut, art director. He's very autistic about the look of the games. Some of his comments on RDR2:
>“Since the connection between sky and landscape [was] so important to us,” Garbut said, “we wanted to get away from the old methods of atmosphere rendering, where there was a theatrical layering between the world and the sky, and to make it something much more tangible, so the player can almost feel the wind, rain, and mist on their face as they ride across the landscapes. From the gusts of wind blowing through the grasslands, to the clouds scudding around the mountain tops casting shadows on the plains below, the atmosphere is a complete inter-connected system.”
>“[We] looked to reality, we looked to the places that we were riffing from. However, there were certain areas like lighting where there were some direct inspirations. Owen Shepherd, our lighting director, looked to the pastoral and landscape painters like Turner, Rembrandt and American landscape painters from the 19th century such as Albert Bierstadt, Frank Johnson, and Charles Russell.”

Yep, can't wait for LEGO Star Wars and the new CoD. Valhalla too of course. God I love being an American consoomer with a high school education.

Rdr2, battlefront/battlefield, ffxv(not in every regard but in some areas), forza horizon 3/4, mortal kombat/injustice, spiderman, assassins creed unity, horizon zero dawn, hellblade, death stranding... these are all next gen graphically to me.

Could do without CoD, desu.

Wow cool. Thanks.

Thousands of sweatshop workers is how true next gen experiences are achieved.

Oh shit I forgot Microsoft flight simulator, the only game that beats rdr2 for clouds.

rdr 2 is easily the most impressive game i played all gen. It has faults but god damn rockstar put a lot of work into it

I think you are just happy with the current gen.

Doesn't seem to be working for CDPR, despite the delays.

It's definitely one of the few games that pushed the ps4 and xbone to the limits, not just in terms of visuals but also the open world. The early years from 2013-2016 felt more like ps3-xbox 360 with higher pixels and nothing new.
RE2 remake and DMC5 also look like something that couldnt be done on the 360 and ps3, RE engine is quite a beauty. I would say tlou2, but that doesnt count since it's a movie.

I think CDPR went through a more experimental phase with Cyberpunk and they landed on the current product, and that's why it took so long.

RDR2 with all, it's a more conservative game aside it's technological archivements.

Dark souls 3 felt next gen

>Kill 20 lawmen
>this is fine
>kill one of their horses
>HONOR LOST

What WERE they thinking?

to be fair Cyberpunk has an very complex open world, and most PCs will struggle with RDR2 when you go to a city.

Ghost of Tsushima is easily another next gen game

well one action isnmeant to help you survive the other action is pure gratuitous wickedness

rdr2 is a soi movie, not a game.

horses are innocent.

TLOU2 looked next gen, but didn't feel like it. Invisible walls everywhere blocked off by climbable objects. RDR2 actually feels next gen with its physics.

Meme bait opinion only held by people who got filtered by chapter 1.

I got low honor ending on my first run because of stuipid shit like this despite me being a good boy helping nuns and monks and shit.

Sadly horses were valuable tools for mongols, mongols who are linked with the start and the spreading of the bubonic plague that killed 1/3 of white people and also islam was spread with the use of horses. they're not innocent

>generic empty open world
>next gen

PS5 graphics
PS3 gameplay mechanics.
