Why can't we have nice things...

Why can't we have nice things? I don't give a fuck about Playstation vs Xbox bullshit and I shouldn't have to keep a fucking laptop open connected to a TV to play PC games in the living room.

It was shit and didn’t work on the 3 games I even wanted to try out

>why can't we have nice things
you can get a snes mini that powers from USB and you have access to anything up to the PS1 and dreamcast if you've got a USB thumb drive for it

if not
still pretty good

Let me guess, you used wifi.

I got an nvidia shield pro and used the steam link app
did not work at a usable latency despite being right next to the router
I also tried to use dolphin on the nvidia shield pro and it also sucked

my main point is don't buy an nvidia shield pro

I don't think you need to box anymore. You can stream your shitty games on tv. just install steam remote play on your tv or mobile device if you want smaller screen for some reason

How can it work on the phone?

I love my Steam Link. Real shame they dropped development and support. All it needed was a better desktop mode and it'd have been golden. As it is, it is really sweet though.

I want one of those for switch ala PSTV. Give it to me already

why dont you just build a cheap PC and plug it into your TV?

lmao i just realized that my HDMI splitter looks like a steam link

You can't build a PC as cheap as Steam Link.

Steam Link literally requires a PC to work

It's not supposed to replace a PC you dumb shit. It's supposed to stream the PCs you already have to a monitor or TV.

cant you buy a cheap andoird phone and use the steamlink app? should be the same price as steamlink was

I still have my Link but it barely worked, half the games didn't boot up or they had input problems with my 360 controller. Maybe try running a huge HDMI cable through your home and run a receiver for a wireless controller.

An android phone wouldn't have a LAN connection, so you're bound to using WiFi, which isn't great for streaming. Then again, there are probably other android devices which do support LAN. But I doubt it'd be much cheaper than a Steam Link. Granted, I bought it on sale (from the original Steam store, though), but I paid like 30 to 50 bucks for the Steam Link + LAN Switch + 10pack LAN cables + cheap and flimsy keyboard and mouse + 10m USB cable (didn't have a bluetooth controller yet back then).

kinda offtopic but is it better to connect with hdmi or displayport to tv? didn't really see any difference when tested it around

They're almost identical, but most TVs don't seem to support DisplayPort compared to HDMI. If you have a decent TV and want to run games at 4K/120hz then you could use a HDMI 2.1 cable.

>i shouldn't have to use a pc to play pc games
huh?

ended up using displayport, because it seemed a bit "smarter". seems to automatically disable the multimonitor thing when off. with hdmi when the tv was off windows still showed tv connected so mouse or folders could go to the empty space so to speak.
>If you have a decent TV and want to run games at 4K/120hz then you could use a HDMI 2.1 cable
nah it's few years old. so i think it's only normal 1080p and 60hz.

either is fine for those requirements, but DP has better multi-monitor support.

Buy Stadia goy

I enjoyed mine but side/upgraded to an rpi 4 for a local media center since the steam link is really barebones.
If they can get the steam remote play working from libreelec that'd be great but I think it's still stuck on running a whole desktop.

Ikr what a retard.

well that would explain the displayport out plug. probably can daisy chain those to make some shitty video wall

>right next to the router
Wireless is still wireless, dummy. Being physically closer isn't going to help with latency

You're the retards. Can you not read?
>I should not have to keep an open laptop connected to my pc.
Retards

Steam Link app is garbage, use Moonlight

Does Moonlight support Steam's contextual touch controls?
Small example is No Man's Sky switching layouts when on foot vs in a vehicle, etc.

..have your desktop in your office...get a 50 foot hdmi..wireless controller..or kbm..why are you retarded op?

>I shouldn't have to keep a fucking laptop open connected to a TV to play PC games in the living room.
>"What is an HDMI cable?"

Well, yeah, the whole fucking point of it is to play on your TV.
If you are using wires then you might as well just play on your desktop, especially if your router is nowhere near your TV.

It worked well for the most part, but I had some issues. One being ps4 controllers kept getting disconnected. Second being that I couldn't use the steam controller( owned by valve) on portal 2 (made by, oh yeah, valve). I had everything hard wired and updated. However, it still worked well in most cases
