I've accepted that they will never release a game as good as the first two Gothic games, so I just replay them with different mods

I won't say there were as good but the Risen trilogy was enjoyable. I remember those three games fondly. I struggled to finish the second opus since it was really different but in the end, it was still a fun AA RPG.

If anything, it was one of the more filled out open worlds in recent times with tons of shit to find like the secret tavern, the nuclear silo, the skull throne or the garden chair vista atop the wind turbine.
You are right, it was the more filled out of them but it was still shit compared to a comfy and tight Gothic I & II map or even Risen.
Open worlds are shit, do not want.
There will be no games like Gothic in terms of world filling. Elex and Risens are closest to them.
