Learn to parry. If I remember correctly every one of his attacks is parryable and has a long chrage time with the glowing and all that. Also all single attacks except for a three attack combo with a lot of time in between (unlike later fights like Monsoon). Also, dash+strong attack (slide) into light attack can stun lock him (he falls on his back when you do this right).
No excuse for you to fail anymore. Good luck and have fun with the rest of the game.

This came out around the same times of DmC and GOW3, I think they also complained about no dedicated dodge button. What I find funny is that despite being so conditioned by western action games and Dark Souls, I've seen people barely using the lock-on and just aimlessly slashing through the game.

I can agree with this, the two button dodge feels clunky especially with Sam where dodging plays a much bigger role. On mouse and keyboard you get a dedicated dodge button even.

Just use the spam parry cheese
There’s no cool down to parry, you can just spam flicking the stick and pressing square. It trivializes most of the game but it’s pretty much a requirement to span on revengance difficulty.
