I built a PC for 600 dollars 8 years ago.
It still outperforms the current console gen.
But, I will probably have to upgrade so I can completely outclass the next two console generations again. I already got most of it for 400 bucks.
My biggest issue is that I need a new case, but one that can fit both my new cooling and also fit in my computer desk.

I paid about 700 bucks for my PC several years ago and it outperformed both what was current gen then, is currently current gen, and will with 100% certainty outperform next gen as well.
So I paid 700 bucks, while console cucks paid 500 bucks, then another 500 bucks a couple years later and now another 600 bucks. Not to mention the price of games being much, much lower on PC and PCs being able to do more than gaming.
Tell me again how consoles are in any way even a decent value proposition?

As a multiplatform owner I have to say PC hardware prices have gone fucking insane, especially CPUs and GPUs. Other parts have also increased in the last few years, but not THAT dramatically. Back in 2012 for instance, 200USD would get you a top of the line CPU, and now it gets you a "mid range" one. With GPUs it's even worse: 200USD were plenty for a great GPU, now a 200USD GPU is considered """"entry level"""" and you need to shell out at least 350 for a GPU before other pc gamers "respect" you. It's complete bullshit.

On the other hand, next gen consoles aren't exactly bargains either. Consoles used to be the "worldwide alternative" for gamers, meaning that a console was still affordable everywhere in the world, including places where the customs fees and other taxes still left them at a point that COULD be reached, with some effort. Well with the 500USD MSRP, that's gone out the window. Both the SX and the PS5 are priced way too damn high in places outside the US, and I'm suspecting they will not care to fix it any time soon.
I am positively convinced the console gaming market in the next 2 to 3 years will be a battle between the xbox series s and the PS FOUR. The series X and the PS5 will be "first world products" all the way to the year 2022 at least.

But I'm miserly, so I waited until most everything was on sale when I bought computer parts. It was probably a 900 dollar computer if I bought stuff at market value.

It's hard to argue value when you pay more over time. Online is 60 dollars a year, so after 5 years that's 300 dollars. If you're frugal, you can get games fairly cheap on consoles but sales aren't as heavy as they are on PC. You also have the issue of expensive controllers breaking, though admittedly I only have experience with Xbone controllers constantly fucking up, so maybe switch or dualshock controllers are better. My computer was 900 dollars, total. If I spent 500 on a new console, I'd have spent more on that console by the end of its generation AND it'd be obsolete a couple years into the next one. Meanwhile a PC can always turn settings down, will last more than one generation while continuing to receive support, and still has the benefit of being a computer as well.
It's hard saying you get more value from a console. As far as convenience though, I can concede easily that consoles have that advantage.
