I like to think that in the epilogue that 3.0 and 2.0 can somehow meet up and roadtrip together with any survivors still capable of moving, but they're not going to rebuild a ravaged Earth.

Honestly, it'd be better if when the "transfer" happens, you left not realizing the original copy was still alive, and then it popped back up later to try and kill you for "stealing it's chance", indicating that Simon still didn't get it, no matter which copy he was.

Being the short end of the stick doesn't invoke the same feeling of horror for "copying" life, you get fueled by motivation of revenge, for the act that you as a player incited, and even that creates narrative dissonance the same way that you spend following Abby thru all of TLoU 2 as Ellie and by the end of Seatles arc play as Abby almost killing Ellie instead.
