Why is pixel-art getting worse?
Why is pixel-art getting worse?
What is that second and third picture from?
Getting Worse?
this is from 2019
Pixel art was just artists working through technical limitations and available resolutions. A lot of indie pixel artists don't realize how much detail they were able to maximize through what they had available.
Why are you posting shit bait threads?
LCDs
Because indie devs are creatively bankrupt. The only new pixel game I've played that had a decent art style is Dead Cells. You can blame Undertale for the rest of the shit flock.
The Last Door
People are getting fucking lazy and these so called artists of today can just shit out a bunch of connected pixels and call it art.
What the FUCK happened to good pixelated 2d fighting games?
shit used to be so kino back in the day
Yes, getting worse, just look at the screenshot you posted, it is garbage.
Anyway shovel knight did pixel art good
the last door was so fucking shit, why did I buy it, oh yeah: niggerman.
Looks almost as good as SOTN from 1997
The ones who made those cool ass pixel games were big companies.
Now the only ones who make pixel"art" are indie devs with close to 0 budget. And big companies make 3d games.
Because an entire legion of zoomer retards have been conned into believing that old games used to look pixelated as fuck.
They cost too much
Too bad because 3d models in 2d fighting games look like trash
can't sell 80 coomer skins when you have to resprite every frame
And Vanillaware that shit over every single indies
Because in early 90s pixel art was the format that big companies were using, so they had tens of people doing graphics for each game, so things could still get done timely while looking good.
These days pixel art in games is mostly being used by smaller development teams with maybe one or two artists, and they really can't afford to spend infinite time working on a game.
There's still games with exceptional pixel art being made, but those are either very long productions like Owlboy or Iconoclasts, or there's one primary artist and then several inbetweeners working on game as well, like what you see with fighting games.
Because in the 90's pixel art was cutting edge. In the 2010's it's just indie developers fellating their childhood games with the lowest effort possible more often than not.
Heres your state of the art physics game bro
Look at all this detail and SOUL that's missing from pixel-art these days
Yeah I hate the 3d model shit in 2d fighting games
why not?
Well, there's always porn games. But those fall under "indie devs with close to 0 budget."
>Why is pixel-art getting worse?
Because first pic is big budget in 90s.
Second is a small indie team.
Third just some guy shitting up steam store.
Big budgets moved from pixel-art as soon as it became outdated to sell to the masses.
Your eyes are just getting worse, oldfag.
i would rather play demon crest
Yes, but from the other end of the spectrum.
>why not?
Well, you could. But it'd be shittons of work. I used to be into spriting like ten years ago and when I started out I realized that just editing every single sprite in a sheet takes lots of time.
Meanwhile if you want to sell costumes for 3D game, you just need to make a new model that's not wildly different from original, and you can replace original with that. Sure, making the new model will take time, but ideally you wouldn't have to touch the animations.
>implying the one on the right hasnt been done already
Takes time. Big budget studios moved on from 2d sprites decades ago and the improvement on the tools does not allow small studios to output 10x the work they'd need to hit what the big studios used to do. The market isn't really there to ramp it back up to big production either anymore.
Because graphics don't matter.
>Well, you could. But it'd be shittons of work.
Guess you are right
I will still appreciate how good these sprites look tho
There should be a pixel game where the universe is falling apart and starts off as the left and ends looking like right
triple a companies need to make everything bigger and flashier no matter what. indie devs are talents hacks who just rob retards on kickstarter
>Make 3d model
>Color
>Pose
>Render
>Pixelize
>Final touches in 2D editing
Why isn't this done?
