do you think Riot can pull it off, anons?
>2020
>still no massively successful F2P fighting game

>western fighting game
Not in a million years.
I am so ready for rising thunder 2, now with even more microtransactions
>F2P fighter
Jesus christ I sure hope not. It's different in a moba because 5v5 gives some wiggle room when it comes to roles and matchups but in a 1v1 fighter where character mechanics are the entirety of the game you need to have access to the full roster to practice and train. Having a rotating cast in a fucking fighting game would force players to pay out the ass to unlock everyone.
Western fighting game is the only way you are hitting those checkmarks. He said
>massively successful
>F2P
>fighting game
and Ill even add
>good netcode
all of those are something Riot can hit, and even attempting to push a big F2P fighting game doesn't seem like an option for Japanese devs. People were super against SFV having "free" characters purchased with zenny/ingame currency. Once story mode came out, you got a ton of zenny.
Devs have been using the in-game currency workaround for years now. Grinding for 20 hours vs spending 20 dollars... guess which one people are gonna opt for when the game is young and the meta is still evolving?
what are you even talking about, pretty much all the premium fighting games now have chars locked behind a paywall
Western fighting games always fail if you aren't called Mortal Kombat.
It will cost more than 60 dollars to unlock the full cast in a F2P riot fighting game, having a full retail game with a few DLC fighters isn't the same
Nah, there's a reason fighting games are niche: they're trash.
>Riot
lol no
I truly hope they bring Mike Z onto the project
>its going to be all the boring characters, ahri, yasuo, garen, akali, etc
>None of the more unique characters like nocturne, ornn, tahm kench
>None of the void champions are gonna get anything cos chinks dont like void.
Might get mordekaiser though
Have you heard of Metal Revolution? It was in closed beta a few months ago and never opened again. It's made by tencent
gibe moni plos
hhueuheuheuheuhehuehu
How desperate fighting game players have to be to pin their hopes on fucking riot games out of all companies
Have you any idea on how riot treats it's own games? Can you imagine a fighting game balanced by riot games?
>Riot
>western
All that really matters is that Jinx is in
And therefore a new, hi-rez Jinx model is in for SFM
Aaaaaaaaaaahriiiiiii iiiiiim gonna.....
Excuse me sweaty, haven't you heard of Brawlhalla?
I hate this. I've broken from League for the first time in 7 years & when this drops, I feel I'll have to play it.
>I feel I'll have to play it.
But you don't.
Will LoL fighter do okay? Probably, but not everything becomes massive by being free. The people betting on it so hard are the "this new fighter will be the one!" crowd. You know the ones who said SFV was the one, then T7, then DBFZ, and so on.
Some genres are just not friendly not matter how many barriers you remove and lack the social aspects that makes many other multiplayer games successful. When the hype for a game is defined by finally I'll be good, and not hey this will be interesting to play there is any issue.
There is already a new model, from the mobile game. Wild Rift models legit look good.
smash rip off isn't a fighter, it's a brawler
>I feel I have to play it
....Why? Straight autism?
they shouldve went with a smah style game, 1 v 1 fighters will never be popular
>You know the ones who said SFV was the one, then T7, then DBFZ, and so on.
all of those games are doing fine. and if their F2P experiment brings in new players that's great for everybody. it's a win/win on all sides
Plus the biggest factor in getting casuals to play a fighter has always been single player. Can be free as it wants but if all they have access to is online, a tutorial which will bore them and a shoddy arcade mode it won't sell. You can take a horse to water and all that.
Honestly, considering the trash we are used to put up with, nothing can surprise us anymore.
There's no such thing as "balance" when talking about the online experience of a fighting game nowadays. I'm talking about alive fighing games, of course, none of that "discord fighters".
FPBP
every single one of riots games besides league of legends flopped massively. the only other game that will be successful is league of legends mobile
>Jinx is in
How are you going to do a fighting game character whose entire moveset relies on guns
>all of those games are doing fine
Yeah and riot shills hype this up as a game changer. You can't already pull a valorant and go well it was only ever meant to do okay.
>There's no such thing as "balance" when talking about the online experience of a fighting game nowadays.
What the are you talking about? Do you mean game balance cause games are way more balanced than ever
Haven't played League in years but that's just standard power creep.
Been playing Runterra though and I can imagine a new fighter every 3 months with balance patches every month. So the MK experience.
I wonder if it'll flop as hard as HotS
You really should play more fighters, gun focused character isn't an uncommon archetype
