Why wasn't Jak 2 even nominated as game of the year in 2003, what games even came out that year?

>what games even came out that year?
>what games even came out that year?
Knights of the Old Republic, Call of Duty, Tony Hawk's Underground, Going Commando, F-Zero GX
>what games even came out that year?
Ratchet 1 BTFO Jak II at its own game and Ratchet 2 was even better. ND got mogged hard this gen.
Sands of Time
Beyond Good & Evil
SMT: Nocturne
FF Tactics Advance
Disgaea
Aria of Sorrow
Max Payne 2
plus everything already mentioned by other anons ITT, it was a really good year all things considered.
>first game was a wacky, fun platformer with good comedic timing and enjoyable characters
>second game comes out
>first thing Jak says is "I'M GONNA KILL THAT DAMN BASTARD PRAXIS"
>game is filled with generic cringelord edgy dark dialogue and epic early 2000s grey/brown scenery
>racing is shit, platforming gameplay doesn't match the new environments or story at all
>ratchet and clank came out and was better in every way
What were they THINKING?!
Because it was edgy garbage, not fun and comfy like the original.
This and Metal Arms, my two favorite third person shooters. Good year.
>2003
what a terrible year for gaming
Jak 2 would be good if half the game wasn’t shitty mission holy fuck
I hope they never bring back this franchise so we don't end up with more retards like the Crash fanbase
>what games even came out that year?
name one thing that was edgy besides jak's first line and dark jak
>I'M GONNA KILL THAT FUCKING NIGGER PRAXIS
how did they get away with that
>use Jak 1's engine
>add guns without updating the engine to accomodate them
Jak and guns were an awful mix. They would have been far more useful with a strafe function, but that would have been at odds with how slick and fluid the platforming is. Awful idea with worse execution.
>three of the five eco types are completely absent
>the gattling gun has exactly as much ammo as the normal rifle
>there's only 4 guns and 2 of them are almost the same
>the peacemaker is treated like some ultimate weapon but all it does it shoot an underwhelming zappy ball
I mean, it kind of was Babby's First GTA Lite. You steal a bunch of cars, gun down citizens, run from the cops and the missions are all about being a criminal, even if you're technically on the 'good' side.
Jak 2 has blue eco gun, yellow eco gun, red eco gun, dark eco gun and monster transformation and green eco health packs, what ecos does it miss?
Dark and green are the only types that have any prominence. Red, yellow and blue are just sort of hinted at with their morph guns. I get that eco was underdeveloped in the first game (particularly red), but they should have tried to improve their mechanics rather than remove them. I feel like eco could have been an iconic powerup like Mario's mushrooms and sonic's rings, but Naughty Dog didn't appreciate what they had.
>I'M GONNA KILL THAT DAMN BASTARD PRAXIS"
That line was supposed to be humorous, not edgy.
Jak 2/3 combat would be better if they had actual aiming and strafe mode. R&C just feels so much superior has a shooter and it has way more charm in its presentation still. It was so surprising playing Jak 2 for the first time and the combat is absolutely awful in comparison to other PS2 games
I think a majority of Zig Forums hates the game because they still get filtered by it as adults.
I got pretty filtered by it as a kid in terms of being shit at the game. But my favorite part was trying to steal one of the megacop cars and escaping the police until they gave up, then going cruising in my stolen chopper.
Ratchet is superior as a shooter because it is a shooter, simple as that. Its level design and gameplay always had gunplay in mind. They were also wise to have such a large amount of guns, most of which were pretty diverse from each other. A swarm of popcorn enemies could be fought with your wrench, the blaster, pyromater, tesla claw, suck cannon, bomb glove, walloper (if you were really bored), morpho-ray, etc. and that kept combat fresh. The consumer culture setting was also designed around the gunplay, which is why everything in the game fits together so well.
It was edgy, but it was of the time. And the racing was great. get good.
>good comedic timing and enjoyable characters
2 also has this, did you forget about every scene with Krew?
Ratchet and Clank has always been the superior franchise. While Jak and Daxter couldn't focus long enough to even finish a single game within a genre Ratchet and Clank had the formula they wanted down by the second entry. Jak and Daxter obviously took more risks, but risk doesn't necessarily equal reward.
This, also what characters does Jak 1 even have, Mayor? Fisherman? Characters with like one or two cutscenes. And Keira and Samos are in Jak 2 too.
>Sly 2 is the best
>Ratchet 2 is the best
>Jak 2 is the worst
What did Naughty Dog do wrong?
Why do people hate the missions in Jak 2?
Reminds me of GTA IV, people on here always say they hate the missions but in reality they both have the best of their respective series.
Jak 2 is the biggest pleb filter in video games
Great taste, user. Metal Arms is one of my all-time favorites.
Jak 3 was worse
>I feel like eco could have been an iconic powerup like Mario's mushrooms and sonic's rings, but Naughty Dog didn't appreciate what they had.
This. I thought the same thing the last time I played the first J&D. I'm so fucking pissed Naughty Dog decided it was better to be trend hoppers than make a game they wanted to make.
The turret mission in Jak 2 is cancer, it's not unfair but it's just really hard.
i never figured out how to kill the zombiebot king
It took myself as a kid a fucking year to beat it playing on and off. Jak III took me a month or so with my parents limiting me to like 1 hour a day. Both were fun, II was just blistering.
They had the formula at the end of the first game when you got the strafe jetpack thing. With the second game they went all out with it, and the evolving weapons was the key element to tie it all together
>Why wasn't Jak 2 even nominated as game of the year in 2003
Because it was shit.
