Does the world just continuously expand as you explore it or something? I don't understand how people make these huge projects and then have room for more.

The world is infinite, yes.

I see. Does that ever lead to problems where there's too much stuff in the world and it has trouble loading? I have never played Minecraft but I watch Hololive play it and they have a shitton of stuff.

You have a chunk render distance that you either set to 29 or 12 depending how good your pc is, and the server will run well depending on if you paid for it to be good

Also, my friend pays for a good server and it runs as good as any other good enough netcode while about 5 to 10 people are online

Also, Also, the unrendered world does not exist until it does get rendered, basically

The game is called Minecraft so it makes me wonder, are you able to mine for precious metals and other valuable items such as gems?

Wait, so is this game about placing blocks or something? Can anyone fill me in here?

I love building brown bricks with Minecrap.

In short, yes. To expand on that however, the game has many different blocks that can be placed to create infinite avenues for creation. You’re limited only by your own imagination.

The world isn't infinite, it's just extremely big. Several bigger than earth, and with less water too.

So I understand that you can mine to collect rocks, metals, and minerals, but can those materials be crafted into other objects?

Wait a minute. I'm pretty sure Neptune isn't that big.

You'd need more than 60 petabytes to store the largest Minecraft world, but you'd run into a bunch of other problems before reaching that.

What are some other problems you'd run into?

They're called the gas giants for a reason. All 4 of the outer planets are much larger than Earth.

>They're called the gas giants for a reason.
Imagine the smell.

the world deloads stuff as you walk away from it and reloads it when you come back. time doesn't pass while you're gone either, though that fact isn't very noticeable unless you were hoping for crops to grow before you got back.

So does that mean that if you're growing crops you have to make sure to place them within a certain range if you and not leave that area until you're done?

it's half sandbox, half survival/adventure. Notch never really committed to either one so we're stuck in the middle and Microsoft isn't gonna rock the boat in that avenue. there is also just a full sandbox gamemode (creative mode) but most people play regularly (survival mode)

Damn, did they have an infinitely big dev team to create it?

The game is separated by chunks. Only the chunks around the player are loaded so that the game is playable. Furthermore the game uses fustrum cull so only the blocks that are visible to the player are loaded and anything behind them is unloaded. On top of that the game only generates blocks that you can see, so blocks that are hidden behind other blocks aren't created until you break the blocks surrounding them revealing the new block which is predetermined by the world generation seed. It's actually a little bit more complicated than that b ut that's the basic gist of it. minecraft.gamepedia.com/Chunk#Chunk_loading

Wait so you have to place blocks using your imagination? How does that work

they just take a certain amount of time to grow, and the timer will only tick up while they're loaded. it's not a huge issue as long as you make the farm somewhat close to your house

This thread convinced me to give this game Minecraft a try. I’ve got it downloaded onto my computer but I’m having trouble loading this infinite Minecraft world. Should I see a screen or something to get into the world? Am I able to play with other players through online multiplayer?

After travelling a certain distance you run into some bugged-out terrain generation that people like to call 'the far lands'

Its pretty fucking big m8

The idea of UY Scuti hurts my brain.

Neptune is pretty big

Our brains are literally not capable of realistically comprehending these sizes. It's insane

How big is the gravity field around UY Scuti? How hot is it?

Now keep in mind that the size difference of a human compared to our sun is magnitudes higher than the difference between these two stars. Shit is fucked.

How come something like UY Scuti exists? What's the point of it. It's so far away. Will we ever be able to use it for anything, like minerals?

Oh look, it's Terraria

>What's the point of it?
That's like asking what's the point of dust.
There is no point, it's just a star that got really, really big.

Is the guy still walking to them

God created it to display his immense power over all of the universe.
