I spent 800 burger bucks in march on a new rig. I'm glad I didn't spend more since all I seem to be playing is 10-20 year old games and Doom Eternal. I think the main problem is the lack of anything promising on the horizon that'll warrant having a high end system. Everything on my steam wishlist is a boomer shooter.

The only meme is the allegation that you have to spend 3000 dollars to buy in when the truth is that the cost for max settings is about equal to (or less, if one builds themself/is savvy) a console+accessories+6 years of paid online. There are less AAA exclusives but it is made up for in abundance in the indie scene and the ability to mod. Worries about technical issues are dramatically overstated and I've legitimately wasted more time with technical issues on the Xbone+PS4 than my PC.

There were legitimate arguments to console superiority prior to the current generation depending on one's priorities, but now the lines are more blurred than ever and I think anyone serious about gaming would have to do serious mental gymnastics to come up with a meaningful excuse beyond exclusives as to thinking consoles are better nowadays. If anything, the meme is "i cant play pc on my couch" as if there aren't a million ways to readily and easily connect your PC with a console controller to a TV. I have owned every console to come out in the past 20 years and a good chunk of 80s/90s consoles so I don't have a dog in the fight apart from wanting people to get the best experience out of my favorite hobby as possible.
