Old OP sure brings me back. I used to adore it in my teens but I just grew tired of it and dropped it... Wow 11 years ago. The manga just reached an agonizingly slow pace around the part Ace dies, not to mention the staggering ammount of useless characters, renewed focus on retarded shonen magic and powerlevels...
It lost the appeal stuff like Drum or Water Seven had, all the time was wasted on molasses slow fights with increasingly ugly and lame characters.

And that's the manga, I cannot fathom how wretched the anime must be by this point. By Ennies Lobby it was unwatchable already.
