Why is it that some people are so obsessed with this thing yet absolutely seethe at the mere mention of the Switch? Like it's so obviously the spiritual successor, I don't get it.
Why is it that some people are so obsessed with this thing yet absolutely seethe at the mere mention of the Switch...
>actual handheld dead only of neglect
>an android tablet with HDMI out
because Zig Forums hates popular things and the Vita crashed and burned
the vita has a great dpad where the switch has the worst dpad in the history of portables
Vita is actually great hardware unlike the Switch.
Vita had a ton of potential but it was bogged down by proprietary memory cards. Switch Lite is a fine console and Vita users only seethe when a Switchfren shows up and makes the thread about them.
>Like it's so obviously the spiritual successor, I don't get it.
True but it also literally helped killing the Vita as many devs stopped bothering with the Vita version of games and worked on Switch instead.
At some point Vita had a lot of Japanese exclusive games, like 99% is now on PC and Switch and some Vita games were shifted to switch like I said.
I have both. Great library on both. Some of my favorite games of all time.
You can put a vita in your pocket. They aren't even close.
1.) It's a truly great piece of hardware that Sony purposely ran into the ground with lack of first-party support and overpriced, proprietary memory cards.
2.) Buyer's remorse.
All Nintendo needs to do is make a pocketable version of the Switch and give it a better crosspad. I can’t imagine the Tegra doesn’t have a die shrink already
This. Switch is literally a barebones Fisher-Price toy.
Pretty much this. That screen was godly when it came out plus great ergonomics. in 2020 a hacked Vita is maximum comfy.
One was abandoned while the other one became an overnight success.
It's easy to see why fans of one platform would be upset.
I like switch more despite the dpad problems since you can do local multiplayer with it unlike Vita.
>playing KoF98 and USF2 while nightfall comes while camping with family
Switch is maximum comfy.
I own both a Vita and a Switch and I never understood people's issue with the dpad, it looks unorthodox but the actual feel is basically the same to me. Agree to disagree I guess.
The Switch is way more powerful than the Vita. Just compare Vita's gimped Borderlands 2 version that can barely maintain 20 fps to the Switch port. The OLED screen on the OG vita obviously had great fidelity but 720p > 544p
Sony killed it themselves. You can't expect devs to have faith in it when they're not even trying.
You hold the Switch in your hands, handheld.
Do people actually keep it in their pocket and take it with them everywhere they go? Welp, I pretty much only kept it inside a case and only played it at home or when traveling.
Have you ever played one? I don't think you have.
I like both
But why do they put so much personal stake in an electronic device? Before the Switch I wanted the Vita to get more support as well, but then the Switch came along and I got an alternative.
The Vita is better hardware wise (for the time it was released)
If only it had SD cards instead of memory cards
I have a vita and a switch so I dont seethe over either. I like hand held gaming even though I never take either handheld out of my home.
You can use a laptop on top of a desk, desktop
>The Vita is better hardware wise (for the time it was released)
But how does that matter now? The Switch is objectively way more powerful than the Vita. Are people still using 90s IBM computers because it was great for it's time?
The Switch is big as fuck. Its not really a handheld. The Joycons are also fucking shit. I love my Switch and I play it all the time but its really just an underpowered $400 home system (console + Pro Controller + Tax + Tip).
>some people
WHICH people? What the fuck are you talking about, who talks about the Vita positively in 2020 beyond piracy and a dwindling set of exclusives (with most things talked about it being that these exclusives should be ported ASAP to other, more popular consoles)?
The Switch Lite is smaller than the original gameboy, is the gameboy not a handheld?
>everywhere they go?
No. Nobody takes it "everywhere" they go. But when you do take it somewhere it can fit in a pocket.
I only keep the Switch in its dock because it can't fit in my pocket. It has poor mobility.
Read the replies, blind-kun
can't respect the opinion of anyone who felt forced to pay the retard tax for a pro "worthless dpad" controller
>I only keep the Switch in its dock because it can't fit in my pocket.
You know you play it with your hands, right? It doesn't have to be in your pocket for you to use it
Personally I like them both very much. Some delusional sony fans do get angry when you mention switch to them, but mostly they are in minority in vita scene these days
Current playstation can fuck off though
Brand loyalty is the easy reason. The hard reason would be because PSP and Vita were competition to the DS and 3DS respectively, both of which had bad launches due to not really good hardware being sold at higher than needed market price.
PSP was Sony's attempt to usurp Nintendo with much stronger hardware and Vita was a successor to that. A shame they messed up by making silly design decisions like expensive proprietary memory which was still required for the PS Vita Slim. That on top of the confusing 2 SKU release where one would work with wifi and the other had a 3G option (which only worked for browsing the net IIRC).
The difference between failure to launch for Vita and 3DS was that Nintendo was able to turn around their failure to launch by bringing compelling software to the platform in time to save it (Monster Hunter 3G for Japan, Mario Kart 7, Starfox 64, Zelda Ocarina of Time 3D and Super Mario 3D Land for the rest of the world including Japan).
The super game boy plays on a television, is the gameboy not a console?
The Vita would be so great if not for the retarded memory cards.
That's the biggest reach ever. I don't care whether you consider it a console or not, but it's definitely handheld.
What?
The switch suffers as a handheld for its form factor.

I like my vita and my switch. Sony should have released the tv out cable as there's nothing else the mystery port was supposed to be.
You can put almost anything on your desk. Meanwhile Nintendo went out of its way to make the switch work as a handheld. The Switch Lite can't even be used on a TV.
What is the relevance of your statement?
I have both hacked and I prefer Vita. It's just comfy to hold, yet Switch feels like a knock-off console from Aliexpress.
Not entirely, it has fundamental problems with the way it was presented. It is a fine piece of hardware and as counter-intuitive as it may seem at a glace, this was responsible for its downfall. Potential purchasers will expect high quality software for the hardware. High quality software costs a lot of money to produce. A limited installed base causes businesses to seriously question the benefits of investing capital toward the production of software. The limited software causes consumers to seriously question the benefits of investing in the hardware. It was a negative feedback loop from the onset.
I picked up an OLED model when they were being firesold for $100. I like it. It's especially nice now that it's been completely opened to homebrew and piracy-- but the very things that make it of positive value to me make it of negative value to the people producing it.
