Just finished VLR and thought it was slightly disappointing when compared to 999; is this worth playing or will it just further sour the series? I rarely hear people give it praise.
Just finished VLR and thought it was slightly disappointing when compared to 999; is this worth playing or will it just...
999 > VLR >>> ZTD
yeah well its Zig Forums so expect good games to be shat on. The game is worth the play. The closure of Junpei and Akane's arcs are worth it. even if the graphics are shit.
Just play it and form your own opinion.
nah id rather have Zig Forums tell me what to do through majority vote
It's awful OP
You'll notice the mediocrity of it almost right away.
I really dislike how they went for a cinematic approach instead of VN dialogue boxes, but didn't have the budget to back it up--so you end up with really stilted animations and poses while they rattle off lines. Cheapened the whole experience. Some of the puzzles are quite fun, though, if not a little obtuse depending on who you start with.
It's worth trying at least. I enjoyed it despite its flaws and being a horrible way to wrap up the franchise. Pretty good memes too.
sadly, if you though that VLR was a downgrade from 999....
ZTD is an extreme downgrade from VLR
>even if the graphics are shit.
I don't know why this opinion is so common. I appreciated that they went for fully voiced and animated cutscenes, even if the animation wasn't perfect. It felt on par with a Telltale game.
ZTD was an abomination and abortion rejects like yourself who defend it in the year 2020 deserve the rope.
No, it sucks ass.
Skip to Somnium Files instead. And play La Mulana if you want more puzzles.
All the buildup from VLR is squandered and it retroactively destroys 999 with retarded retcons but the memes will soothe your asspain in a complex way.
see. here they are. The angry Zig Forums contrarian who has to hate anything popular. Maybe you should calm down son
>999
10/10
>VLR
7/10
>ZTD
2/10
skip this shit and pretend it doesn't exist. the only redeeming quaslites of the game are Carlos and the music.the music is only good because it just reuses the best songs of 999 and VLR
Holy fuck it was the dog all along!
I wish all the games had 999's visuals.
Honestly, I thought it was better than VLR.
>VLR
>disappointing
Sorry you felt that way. I loved every second of that game. Mostly because of how great an MC Siggy was. I had almost all the plot points spoiled for me and I was still blown away by the HOW of it all. Needless to say if you didn't like VLR, you're going to hate ZTD. Just skip it and play AI Somnium, it's not a complete return to form, but it has all the familiar ingredients that made VLR and 999 great.
>closure of junpei and akane
Their insertion into ZTD made it 2x worse. We lost two new interesting characters to a bitter alcoholic and his psychopathic waifu. When you rewrite the sequence of events to shoehorn in your love children, you know the game is gonna suck.
You can't just SHIFT away from all your problems, Carlos.
>Mostly because of how great an MC Siggy was
i agree but how did he not notice that he is missing an eye and is like 70 years old? that plot twist was really retarded
Poor writing unfortunately. Especially when he looks into the pond. You had to do that in an earlier puzzle, how the fuck did he not see it then? Granted it was amazing looking back at all the subtle hints that he actually did look like that. Don't know how I missed them all while playing.
If you like puzzles and preposterous situations, you'll enjoy Zero Time Dilemma. If you want things to make sense and have good continuity, don't bother, you're going to get upset
Yep, it's pretty bad but in a still-enjoyable way. Carlos and Sigma are the best parts of the whole thing, I gave no fucks about Q team. The D team gun decision from the store page art and Chad SHOOT ME Carlos are pretty kino though
I only played VLR. Is 999 worth playing?
>It felt on par with a Telltale game.
That doesn't sound like a plus
Disliking ZTD isn't even contrarian is it?
Absolutely. DS version's final puzzle has a dual-screen gimmick, but the PC port has some upsides that make it worth considering.
PC port lets you blaze through text from a brand-new file, doesn't hide Text Skip as a completion bonus, also adds the timeline screen you're used to from VLR. Now you can jump to crucial decision scenes, instead of playing through from the start of the game
Hating ZTD actually seems like the default Zig Forums opinion. I played it first and liked it, but I had literally no expectations
he forgot to take his meds, please excuse him
VLR wasn’t bad, but I felt it definitely didn’t live up to 999. Although, considering I went into 999 blind and with low expectations I guess it’d be pretty hard to follow up when I didn’t see the twist coming. But, I was able to predict some of the plot of vlr, I guessed the sigma twist not that far in. Also, I did play AI and honestly don’t think I can finish it due to its characters. I love Date and Aiba’s dynamic, but most of the other characters are just bland or shit. Ota in particular is just intolerable. This wouldn’t be as big of a problem if AI wasn’t clearly a character driven story.
I'm heavily outnumbered on Zig Forums but I actually really liked the PC version for the flow and voice acting. Junpei avoids the awful shonen protag dub and it didn't feel overacted, which I enjoyed. The gimmick is definitely cool but I don't think lacking it ruins it at all.
They call him Left because he Left the game and didn't show up again haha
The missing eye thing could be just future tech being impressive. The 70 years old part I thought was covered because he felt like shit in general, but he justifiably attributes that to being drugged and shit.
Yeah I can't remember how that one works but I wouldn't be surprised if there was some bullshit explanation. Or none at all.
>Hating ZTD actually seems like the default Zig Forums opinion
I was under the impression ZTD was less well-recieved by most fans, ignoring Zig Forums. I could be wrong though. Its reviews are quite good. But I'd have thought the good reviews might be because the actual puzzles were still good. It's just the story, really, that got funny.
In fact, I'd say the default here is to find ZTD funny, not hate it. All the memes and shitposting here are a testament to that.
