It's not, assuming you're emulating it and can remap the buttons a little. Aiming and using the automatic weapons can be a little more finicky because you have to make sure your aim is good, but otherwise it's easy to work around. The fast equip makes it easy to lower weapons when you want to. I often did that even when playing it on the PS2. For CQC you can just map the circle button as a half-press and -- if you want the full functionality -- map circle + some other button as a full press. It's not ideal but it's far from unplayable.

You'll be in a world of hell if you try to do any of the CQC stuff without pressure-sensitive keys, and most zoomies are too ADHD to rebind / create custom sets.

Casuals became the target audience in ~2006, and AAA devs realized they can make half the games they've used to, and still make tons of money.
Same studios also keep kicking out their actually creative and innovative work force, because they're "too risky".

6th gen had a good combo of innovation with both gameplay and graphics. Gameplay became less of a priority after that though, the budget for gameplay is actually really small compared to marketing/voice actors/graphics these days, and that leads to boring games.

They dont want good games they want to exploit whats popular and shape it into propaganda and teaching tools.

Ie starcraft, gets turned into competitive sport where you have to practice hours and hours on end in a robotic fashion. Pay the best of the best autists money and make them sports stars to give legitimacy to this behaviour. IE people will justify robotifying themselves for status and money. one of the SC2 pros is even a tranny. Casters are cool bro type guys who make it seem like its cool. Strategies involve basically repetitive timings where its not really about being clever but who can execute things faster or be more abusive with game mechanics because each race has bullshit mechanics that are a nightmare to play against in the right scenario. The game basically shapes minds into a purely leftbrain imbalance where there is no creativity or sense of "fun" but rather just doing whatever it takes to win.
Most games focus on this mindset which is why they killed SC2 and WC3 because they did not want large swathes of players playing custom games or making their own maps that are fun.
This is where Dota and Lol close the gap where it even removes the difficulty factor and glorifies people controlling one character really well on one map doing autistic shit like grinding gold and timing items.
They then went and literally killed Hots because it was the last breath of old blizzard doing a creative passion project where the game became fun and innovative to allow the players freedom but even that system became abused as the old designers were chased out and removed the idea of specialists or split pushing where the new devs were basically forcing a game design on the players and not letting the players decide. Then the game was just outright murdered kind of cementing a final fuck you to everyone.

This isn't exactly what happened. What happened is that development costs started to balloon, and when you have huge costs you need to sell more games. When you need to sell more games you try to target as broad an audience as possible. Of course the market itself getting bigger also justified these ballooning costs and led to developers consciously aiming at a broad audience (if nothing else to sell the hardware) but it's a reaffirming process. If you want to blame anybody, blame the kind of idiots you see in graphics card threads jerking off about polygon counts and texture resolutions.

Thankfully digital marketplaces have allowed for developers to break away from this cycle since they aren't beholden to a $60 price tag. Niche games are easier to market.

I wish I could recommend Xenosaga Ep.3 but you need the context from Ep.1 and 2 to really 'get' what's happening in the plot and those two instalments are... not great.
Devil May Cry is a good choice though.
