why
>ports
this game is meant to be played on an arcade machine and nothing else
Perfect blend of camp comedy and creepy
Ridiculously quotable dialog
Fast paced, fun, universally enjoyable by everyone
Based
wait are they porting them to the switch? neat.
>t. never played with joycons
Based taste
One of my bigger regrets is being so terrified of the machines as a kid that I'd stay as far away from them as possible, when I finally got over it I had an absolute blast, especially with 3 and its shotgun.
They arent ports they are remakes.
Prob gonna be a TPS.
Oh shit, an actual HOTD 1 port to switch, fucking swe....
>Actually, it's a remake by the same people who did the Panzer dragoon one
Into the trash it goes.
>ports
I thought they were straight up remakes like Panzer Dragoon?
>wanting to play a light gun game with no light gun
I still play these games on my CRT
What went wrong with Panzer Dragoon?
is overkill worth playing? i fully understand that it's trying to go for something something grindhouse b movie (i dont watch movies) aesthetics but it honestly turns me off with how it's super campy.
I don’t think the PD remake was bad per say, it just felt weird that they essentially just used a very generic aesthetic instead of touching up the original’s incredible art design and colors
The actual gameplay is identical
Also that price point can get fucked
>Prob gonna be a TPS.
Not too bright, are you?
i like you op
framerate
art changes
controls don't feel as tight
latency is a little too high
changes to some levels are subtle but irritating
Some things have been fixed a bit in subsequent patchs, but meh.
Biggest hope for these remakes would be solid joycon-as-gyro support, and maybe 3rd party gun grips. The original games were fast paced, but scene switching was still a bit janky, so there really wouldn't be as huge a need for latency perfection (outside of shooting).
Consider that old consoles and TV setups were simpler, electrically.
scarlet dawns too hard for me
one day i hope to 1cc hotd2 but i honestly always fuck up near the end consistently and it gets me
where can I buy actual hotd cabinets
>Switch ports
Is there some light gun peripheral for switch I am unaware of?
idk if this is still a valid way to do it since so many years have passed but if you go to places that have machines like movie theaters or non dave and busters/round1 arcade places, ask the owner if they have a machine you could buy. you might have to refurbish or fix it yourself but thats another topic
typing of the dead is the same game, and it's easier to 1cc, if that helps you along in your dream
"The Wheel Of Fate" is such a cool name for a final boss. Always thought that.
>Playing microtransaction versions
>Not grabbing the abandonware iso and playing for free
How do I get a lightgun to work on PC?
House of the dead is a cool series in general, I wish SEGA would port the franchise to PC with an optional VR wrapper that simulates the original light gun cabinets for each game, because on top of 1:1 VR setups we also have PC light gun controllers, it just seems like a no brainer, especially since House of the Dead: Overkill is already on steam via Typing of the Dead: Overkill.
I still don’t know why, despite the light gun craze with Move and Wiimotes, they only ever ported 3 and 4 to PS3, and that weird 2/3 bundle to Wii
No 1-4 collection or anything
Strange choices
Things like the AimTrak light gun exist. There's other options too if you google it.
i think the wii couldnt really handle hotd4 which is why i guess it was put into ps3 along with hotd4special. also source: dude trust me, i think sega straight up lost the source code for hotd1? im not sure if thats true or not but maybe i wonder if it's why the 1+2 remakes on switch have been silent for so long.
Was it autism?
>Emulates a USB mouse and game controller. No drivers required. Compatible with all PC OSes
Well hot damn. Gonna pick one up my next paycheck. I've had 2 and 3 on my last two PCs, including this one, but I grew bored of mouseplay.
Does anyone have a working 1 PC copy? As in the music works? Years ago ou could find 1 anywhere on the internet, but it notoriously lacked music.
Arcade games on consoles feel so soulless. At the cabinet, you are betting a quarter on completing the game in one short sitting and risk losing more quarters the worse you do. On consoles you pay more than most people spent cumulatively to beat the game over however long they tried beating it.
Jesus Christ that sounds plausible
It’s been so long since I’ve played 1; every arcade or theater only ever has 2 or 4 from what I’ve seen
up to you to decide

But on the flipside you get unlimited access to the game so you can play it whenever you want instead of losing access to it if the Arcade goes under or you can't go there anymore.
Honestly I would recommend just emulating HOTD1 somehow, the original PC ports of the games were shit as it is but they probably don't even work on modern hardware, for example: The webm of HOTD3 in is emulated via RPCS3 and it is actually somehow LESS BUGGY than the native PC version that was released for windows XP back in the day. Same goes for emulating the dreamcast version of HOTD2, seen in Also keep an eye out for the Sinden Light gun, that shit looks really good and it's more recent, don't know when it will be available to everyone though.

I dunno man, I've played through my PC 2 and 3 hundreds of times. They work great. Emulating 1 might have to do though.
>light gun craze
>move
Did that ever actually take off? I remember everyone just thinking it was a dildo with a light ball on top and the Resident Evil railshooters flopped on it despite UC doing a million on the wii
I suppose that's true, and the games can include a mode where you don't have infinite continues as well. It sounds really stupid to say "yeah it was better at the arcade" but it's true to an extent for lightgun games, it's a unique experience you aren't getting on console. Some like Ghost Squad or HotD 3 even had very unique gun models for the time, which helped the immersion. Meanwhile stuff like DDR or fighting games can work perfectly fine outside of the arcade.
That said, the one lightgun game I wish we could get a port of is Ocean Hunter. I loved that one.
1 and 2 are classic. I can't get into 3 and 4 with the automatic weapons, but I never got to play either of them in real life so maybe pumping the shotgun is just that satisfying.
3 does not have automatic weapons, it uses a shotgun that may as well be a pistol anyway with a wider shot hitbox considering you can fire and reload it as fast as one.
>so maybe pumping the shotgun is just that satisfying
it is, 3 is my personal favorite for that reason even if the game itself isn't the best in the series
>Keith and Robert are on their way. No one can beat them.
>Keith and Robert?!
>*BANG* NYEHEHEHEHE! Well, well, it appears we have a guest. Looks like we got here just in time. A leak like this would have been problematic...to say the LEAST!
>Oh! A punch like that, and you think you're gonna conquer the world!
>SILENCE! You have no idea how perfect our plan is. Now take her away!
Give me one (1) good reason why Time Crisis 2 doesn't wipe the floor with HotD
