Holy fucking shit

why does Blasphemous use so much GPU memory?

Attached: blasphemous_gpu_2gb.jpg (1375x836, 152.6K)

I had nothing else running before I started the game, my GPU memory was at 0.2 gb so Blasphemous is using 1.8 GB for a tiny resolution pixel graphics game, wtf is going on

>3.9GB

post a screencap of yours from the task manager

Attached: file.png (265x160, 6.76K)

You're not posting the right part of the task manager.

do you own Blasphemous? can you close all other programs, note your GPU memory and then run the game and see how much it increases by?

1.8 gb for a tiny resolution pixel game makes no sense

>intel HD graphics
Because you have no dedicated GPU memory

of course I am I'm looking at how much GPU memory the game uses

I know that but that has nothing to do with the fact that Blasphemous uses 1.8 gb of memory for loaded graphics (for a tiny pixel art game), whether that's loaded into dedicated or shared memory

the amount of data and where it's stored are two different things

No, I don't own the game. Also it's fine if it uses that amount of memory.

but how could pixel art at 640 by 480 resolution use that much

You aren't, you're just posting a screenshot of the game without showing exactly how much itself is taking, really just showing that the game and probably something else is taking up memory.

It'd be more appropriate to show Blasphemous in the processes tab, rather than the performance tab.

>4GB in 2020

Post the processes tab with the gpu% shown by application

see

Shared GPU memory is just RAM that the GPU can access, anything can get put there.

>3.9 GB

Attached: file.png (383x76, 2.22K)

that shows you how much of the GPU's processing power a program is using, not how much memory it's taking up

the GPU usage for Blasphemous is predictably tiny because it's just drawing small resolution sprites
it seems to be an extremely memory-heavy but GPU-processor-light game

nothing else was running before I started the game, it was at 0.2 gb of gpu memory, then shot up to 2 gb when the game started, and back down to 0.2 when I closed it

are anons in this thread really this retarded? how a game looks has nothing to do with how well optimized it is
it doesn't matter if its pixel art or photorealistic, if its badly optimized it will take a ton of your resources, period

if you torrented the game you either have a badly optimized game like said or you have a BTC miner running there user

>needed a gpu in the bitcoin miner debacle
>paid like €300 for this shit

Probably just loads everything it could possibly need into VRAM because there's enough of it available. What does it matter anyway? I don't think it's possible to buy GPUs with less than 2 GB of VRAM nowadays anyway, so why bother?

It is running on Unity so it is not a 2D but a 3D game with a fixed perspective and billboarding.

Increased by about 1.7 GB for me at 1440p

but this is off the charts badly optimized
the game is pixel art and it runs in a tiny resolution, about 640 by 480 or even less

an 8K texture page of sprites (8192 by 8192 pixels) takes 256 mb of GPU memory, so if Blasphemous is occupying 1.8 GB of memory that's about seven 8K texture pages... or if you think about it in terms of 64 by 64 pixel sprites, it's about ( (8192/64) ^ 2) * 7 texture pages = 114 688 sprites

I could be wrong but just from observing the levels as I'm playing and the amount of different enemies, animations and backgrounds, the game can't possibly have 100 thousand sprites

no bought it on Steam

mine increased by 1.8 gb, very close - so it's not just me

>Probably just loads everything it could possibly need into VRAM because there's enough of it available.
this could be the reason, but wouldn't this crash certain computers and cause out of memory errors?

>3.9 GB

Looks like someone didn't pay for full 4.0 GB

>Probably just loads everything it could possibly need into VRAM because there's enough of it available
okay but then why does it have loading screens for new areas? wouldn't loading all data into memory at the same time eliminate the need for loading screens? what else could it possibly be loading?

Not unless you are running on a fucking toaster/integrated graphics. It is a possibility but it's unlikely anyone interested in playing blasphemous would have that destitute of a computer.

>PC master race
>less VRAM than XSeX or PS5
lmao

imagine getting mad when a game uses the vram you bought. i buy 1gb vram cards and i swear to fuck if you so much as use more than 50% if it ill boycott you. my vram is NOT to be used.

I have integrated graphics (you can see in OP pic) but it runs fine on my computer, it doesn't use the GPU processor very much it just uses a lot of memory

>people unironically using this website with 2001 tier hardware
Haram

who fucking cares dude jesus christ... if it keeps you awake at night go do some research on your own.

>no bad touch my vram spot desu fampai

If you have integrated graphics you should probably not buy games made within the last 5 years and expect them to run well. Pirate games or play old stuff while you save money for a 1660S or something else like that.

>game loads everything it could possibly need on startup
>game then has "loading" screens that waste your time between levels, when literally everything is already loaded
did the devs put in empty loading screens with timers just to troll people?

He doesn't actually have any VRAM

Went from ~600 MB to ~2400 MB after increasing it to 1080p.

>but wouldn't this crash certain computers and cause out of memory errors?
user, who the fuck has less than 2GB VRAM in 2020 (or whenever the fuck it released)? I mean sure, the minimum requirements are a GTX260 which had 1GB-ish VRAM if I remember correctly but if you don't have enough, they probably just won't load everything at once.

Everything that's needed to display shit being loaded into VRAM doesn't mean that everything is loaded into RAM. I've seen an user here mention that it's made in Unity, and Unity is kinda notorious for shitty loading screens since it's kinda shit at streaming data from storage. One might ask why you wouldn't just load everything into RAM anyway, but this might be, again, some Unity-related issue.

ok, what's it like living in 2005?

Why do you have to make me feel bad about owning a shit PC, Zig Forums? I know I am poor. I wish I could play with better hardware. You don't have to remind me how shit my life and my situation is every day.

why are you pretending to be OP

You made the thread to complain that a game uses a very small amount of VRAM, retard.

don't worry user

Cosmodrone is garbage and there's literally nothing to do

>4gb VRAM

>pirated the game

>obsessed autist watching the number of unique posters in the bottom left with every new post
take your meds schizo

user, the upper mid range PC I bought in 2011 had a GPU with 2GB VRAM. If you don't have a dedicated GPU, it's totally fine for a game like this, since you only have one big RAM pool anyway. But are you honestly telling me that you don't have a fucking 2GB VRAM GPU in 2020, if it's a dedicated one? What the fuck.

holy newfag

Because it's made with Unity.

Un-based newfriend

Could be a million things. Shader complexity, front loading a lot of assets, offloading a bunch of work to the gpu, high res assets, poor optimization for your card/driver.

what kind of bloat does unity put into it Mr. Bond?

How is 2gb small amount for a 2d pixel game? Are you really underage?

I don't think you understand how VRAM works user

Has very little to do with it. Unless you're insinuating that the devs somehow fucked up the render pipeline or are mismanaging their assets because they don't know how to use the engine.

Memory allocated does not necessarily mean memory actually used, user.

To be fair, the initial rush of Unity games were often unoptimized messes because of how easy the engine is to use.

>Unless you're insinuating that the devs somehow fucked up
clearly they did, multiple anons have independently replicated the problem on their own ITT

the game is tiny res pixel art and bloats out 1.8 gb of GPU memory, this is unjustifiable

When did I pretend to be OP?

You realize how incredible expensive GPU's still are? I'm not in a situation where I can spend more than 50$ a month on luxury items not exclusively PC parts. Yet playing videogames is the only thing that even makes me remotely happy for a few hours in my life. I mean quite literally the only little bit of time that I can endure in serenity and relative peace. It's incredible painful to slowly be pushed out of the only thing I truly love and live for because the argumentation of people in better situations is to "lol just make more money" or "lol just buy better hardware, it's [current year]". You know? I would if I could.
